So… ignoring the punctuation question for a minute (I am curious, too, but not sure) – you can’t count on admissions officers having seen that movie or remembering much about it if they did. Just saying be careful about using cultural references that may be meaningless to your reader.
I think the question mark basically takes the place of the period. You do the same thing when you’re asking a question about something that is also a question (Did you ask, “Why not?”) – no two question marks, just one that supersedes the other.
