I accidentally ended a rhetorical question with a period instead of a question mark. I asked another rhetorical question 2 sentences prior, with proper punctuation. It was in the supplement essay for University of Richmond. Will this hurt my chances?

nateheeter,
I sincerely doubt this will affect your chances. I am sure they will put much more weight on your GPA, SATs, extra-currics, and the overall tone and thoughtfulness of the essay vs a simple punctuation error. So please relax! Most schools are looking for reasons to accept you, not deny admissions. I cant imagine the admit officers sitting around saying, “Nate is really great, but this period in the essay really upsets me” ;-)

No, you’re fine. If anything, they will know a student wrote and edited their own work, not a professional (although I’m now reading professionals are putting in typos…). Take a breath. If your application is otherwise strong, they won’t give it a second though.
