If a supplement says to list other colleges...

If a supplement says to list other colleges do I need to list all of my schools? Will they know if I dont list some?

Technically-no. But it’s an honesty thing.

If they tell you to list doooont do it (in my opinion). It’s always optional and if they think you have them as a safety school you’re screwed. Had a friend that got into Harvard etc. and was rejected from Grinnell, not that it really mattered since he got into Harvard but still ***? lol

Yeah, I don’t think I will. I’m applying to 16 or so colleges… that can’t go over well.

I think ill list schools ‘below’ the school

Most of the time that question is optional, but I had one school where it wasn’t. If it is optional, your best choice is to just not answer it.

However, for the one school that required it (my safety) I listed schools the schools were bigger, smaller, more difficult, less difficult, private, public, in the same state, and out of state. To be honest, I think I just confused the admissions people because the only pattern was that all of them have study abroad programs, Christian groups, and marketing majors, which most schools do.

I applied to so many schools that they wouldn’t even fit if I listed them all, so I was just strategic in the ones I did choose to list. I’m not sure if the “a little of everything” is a good strategy or a poor one to be honest, but I’ll leave that up to you to decide. It was just how I personally chose to deal with it, and it seemed to turn out okay because I was accepted (keep in mind this was my safety though). Hope that helps.

I think honesty is important.

My younger S just finished his apps. The first app was RPI’s candidates choice app, and he listed those the planned to apply to. He changed a couple of them by the time he completed the common app. We are not concerned about the two differences, because S was honest at the time of the application, and if questioned, he would tell them so.

I wouldn’t list only schools “worse” than the one that’s asking. It will make you seem like a weaker applicant. But don’t only list “better” schools. No school wants to be a safety.
