If Engineering desicions are already out...could that mean...?????

yeah i believe the Holistic approach is only being applied to the "borderline" applicants

so u guys really think results may be out in 10 days?

The holistic approach probably was applied to all applicants because it is very easy to implement over the old system. UCLA was not using a point-based system before anyway; one person read the application and one read the essays (maybe more than one, but it was split up). The "holistic" approach is a fancy way of saying that the reader of the application is now the reader of the essays, and perhaps the applications get a second read, like at Berkeley. I don't see why it would change any decisions though; the argument is that it would help disadvantaged students, and that's true, it might.

But the UC regents had also sent out a letter (maybe a year ago?) saying that the process needs to be focused on GPA and SAT and not other aspects, because the UC system is meant to foster the educations of academically motivated students (this also supports my hypothesis that academically-related ECs hold more weight; leadership in a community service just makes you look like a nice person). So, regardless of one's background, a higher GPA is a higher GPA, and a rich kid with a 2400 (although, please don't make me go on about the ineffectiveness of SAT prep classes) is more valuable than a poor one with a 2200. I suppose the poor one with a 2200 has arguably "overcome" more than a rich one with a 2200, but I don't see why the pre-holistic process wouldn't have bumped that person up by a small amount.

hmmm makes sense...so you guys is there a chance results may be out on friday?

bannanagirl... do yourself a favor and don't get your hopes up about any particular day.
because as soon as you do that, all your fears and hopes will be attached to, let's say, friday (and no, i don't think they'll be out friday as that would mean they'd be out even EARLIER than last year xD). that day will come, and throughout that entire day your stomach will be full of butterflies, your fists clenched, and your mind unable to concentrate on school. you'll race home, check your email, and find... nothing. major letdown. all that anticipation for nothing... there is no end, yet, to your worked-up uneasiness!
oh well, it's okay, you think, there MUST be some other way to predict the day. and then, you might attach yourself to the NEXT friday, certain that results will come out then. they HAVE to, right? so you'll repeat the entire process... until... you've worn yourself out and you can't think of anything else!
it ain't healthy, girl! ;)
kind of reminds me of the people who always used to predict the dates of the end of the world. luckily we're still waiting on that one.
but i promise you, bannanagirl, your wait will end, and your time of animated suspense will pass a lot quicker if you try not to think about it!!!

lol liyana.................... Sigh it sux being in this waiting position!
