If GPA is lacking, will extracurricular(s) and Standardized Tests carry?

I am painfully aware of a very average GPA, that is actually closer to 3.7. I speculate that I can raise my SAT score to 2300+ and am confident in a 35 on the SAT. I am apprehensive because I spent a lot of my time focusing on extracurriculars and it has taken a toll on my GPA. I go to a very challenging private high school (consistently 2nd in the nation according to polls) which only adds .25 per AP class on a 100 point scale. I am very apprehensive about the admissions process as there is much pressure by my parents to get into a top-class university. Any help is appreciated! Thank you!

Coming back to this post, I have noticed a myriad of errors. I want to clarify I meant Common App not College App. Also I put Volunteer hours into the paid section for some reason. Anyways I am also Vice-President of NHS, but I’m assuming that that holds little value in the admissions process, especially an Asian Candidate. Thanks

To start, I am also a student so my advice is probably weak. Anyway…

Well the Asian thing won’t help, but if your school is actually #2 in the country (like Andover/Exeter type schools) then I feel like you should have a chance at top colleges. Maybe not Stanford, but better than schools than most 3.7s could get into. Also, the fact that you’re a recruitable(?) fencer is nice. Awards are also very impressive.

I’d say if not lower tier ivies then schools like WashU, Vandy, Berkley, etc. would work for you

Obviously one of these is your ticket into a top school, not your GPA (but if your school is so great, a 3.7 is a good GPA, and your counsellors should know best on where you might get in, a top school has top students who go to top colleges every single year).

These are not ho-hum awards, ask your coaches and contacts through these activites to set you up with recruiters. A top 60 school is still great too …

PS pressure from parents is best overcome with lots of information on how competitive schools are and a really good effort by you to find schools that you are a match to, that you will really like going to … and yes, that need your particular recruitable talents… Div 3 schools want athletes …and are top tier academically and in rank.
