I applied to a college and I sent my FAFSA to them and accepted my financial aid awards but I am not going to enroll in classes so will they still take my loans out or no?
This is probably a dumb question but I honestly don’t know. I plan on applying to another college instead so I don’t want them taking out my loans if I am not attending there.
Please email them and let them know you will not be attending after all. If you don’t sign a loan promissory note then no loans are issued.
An MPN is for the loan, not the school … if the OP attends another school & needs a loan, he/she will have to sign an MPN.
Per federal regulations, schools are required to verify enrollment before disbursing a loan. If you aren’t enrolled, your loans will not disburse.
On the flip side, fair warning to those who enroll but don’t attend … you have to officially drop your classes in order to be considered “not enrolled.” I worked with a football player a few years back who decided to play for another school at the last minute. Although he told the coach, he didn’t bother to drop the classes he was enrolled in - he figured the coach would take care of everything, but it doesn’t work that way.
Please formally withdraw your acceptance of their admission offer. Some students have been charged a room & board fee because they failed to notify the school properly and the school held space for them.
