Hi! So on my common application I applied for my first choice major as economics (farmers school of business) and my 2nd choice as supply Chan and operations management. I selected my academic area of interest as business, business executive.
I am starting to regret applying for this and am concerned about if I will get in. I am OOS and have a 3.0 UW and 3.2 W gpa from a well regarded high school and a 25 act. I have about 50 volunteering hours and have had a job 2 years. I can see on naviance students with my scores have been admitted to Miami university in the past but I’m concerned since I applied for business.
Does anyone know if they do not want me for my majors if I will be put in general studies or just denied. I’m considering emailing them to switch a major
Also; I was confused when I applied because after the supply chain major it did not say that it was part of the business school but economics said it was a business major.
Also does anyone know if there is any possibility that if I am accepted I would get a small schollarship? I know my scores are lower and it is a low chance!
Thank you!
It’s my understanding that students with “certain scores” are offered direct admission into the Farmer School of Business (my son was offered direct enrollment). The threshold changes from year to year based on the applicant pool, but you can see the threshold for Fall 2018 here: http://miamioh.edu/admission/high-school/application/business-requirements/
It’s my understanding that students who don’t received direct admission can reapply after they take some of their Miami Plan prerequisites. The admission criteria for current students is non-competitive. If you satisfy the requirements, you get in. The requirements for current students can be found on the same page as above: http://miamioh.edu/admission/high-school/application/business-requirements/
Also – my son is interested in studying Economics, too. It’s my understanding that there are actually three different Econ majors offered at Miami. One is through the business school, and two are through the College of Arts and Sciences. It’s my understanding that the actual Econ classes are exactly the same, but the other foundational courses differ. The FSB degree has a very business-focused foundation (lots of other business courses) while the A&S degrees are more liberal arts based. (I think that’s why it specifically said “Business” after Econ. There were probably two Econ choices. We were told to be sure to choose “Economics - Business,” not just “Economics” if he wanted to be considered for direct enrollment in FSB…I think Supply Chain is always in the Business school, so there probably wasn’t a reason to add “business” to that one.
As far as scholarships: I really have no idea. My son’s award was within the range that they stated on their merit scholarship website. He did not qualify for need-based aid. I am not sure if any extra money is available for merit scholarships beyond what was stated on the website. I’m sure it’s always on a case-by-case basis.
I’ve heard that the prerequisite classes for Farmer admission are pretty easy to fulfill, so even if you aren’t directly admitted, as long as you put in full effort into the classes, you should be fine. It will also help if you’re taking an accepted AP class and score well on the exam.
