If I get rejected, I'll sue Harvard for abridging my right to happiness.

I can do that, right?

I believe your natural right, in the words of Jefferson (with a little help from Locke), is to the "pursuit of happiness."

As Wikipedia dutifully explains, "It is worth noting that the declaration does not suggest a right to happiness itself; merely a right to pursue happiness. Thus, nobody can claim their rights are being violated simply because they are unhappy."

Indeed, that would assume "equality of results," which defies the basis for capitalism. However, if you are rejected because of some inherent quality that isn't to the personal tastes of the admissions officer that you can reasonably present as "discrimination" in the courts, that abridges "equality of opportunity," and if you have the means to hire a lawyer, it's perfectly within your capabilities.

A nice idea nevertheless

Let me guess.. Concentrating in Law? ;-)
Private school = Private Rules

You can't sue them....hahaha

If anything, I can sue for denying my right to autonomy by removing whatever incentive I had to move to Cambridge. And we all know autonomy is mucho importante.

P.S.: I'm trolling.

Yes, we got that :)

You know, I've actually been thinking of suing my school system because it is one giant monopoly, and monopolies are illegal. Plus, they screwed me over in a decent education.

While I'm at it, I'll add the post office. :-P

As a conservative republican (and I'm barely middle class, too), we all in this country have the right to PURSUE happiness. A typical democrat expects people to hand things over to him/her without doing ****. Sometimes in life you have to do things you don't want to do in order to get to where you want to be. Example: High grades, sat scores, ecs that you've devoted to, college, law school, etc.... You're not just going to get handed your doctorite.

we all know through boston legal that to get at a private school you can't use the law under the Constitution, but the law of negative press :)

Guess that explains why so many Harvard students, who went to high school, got good grades and high sat scores, were devoted, and are currently enrolled in college -- mind you, achieving all of this without doing "****" -- are liberal democrats.

Harsh generalizations don't make for a good argument. You'll learn that in Expos if you come here. =)

"As a conservative republican (and I'm barely middle class, too), we all in this country have the right to PURSUE happiness."

Exactly the kind of flawless logic and syntactical mastery expected of a conservative republican.

File a class action suit, i'll join in.

When I'm at your school next fall (yes, I was accepted EA), I dout I'm going to have problems.

"Guess that explains why so many Harvard students, who went to high school, got good grades and high sat scores, were devoted, and are currently enrolled in college -- mind you, achieving all of this without doing "****" -- are liberal democrats."

Hmmm... And most of their parents aren't well off? I dout that half the current Harvard students wouldn't be where they are today without their parents' "contributions." Now, why do you support programs and such that just GIVE people things? If someone doesn't have enough money to live on, they're just too lazy or too stupid in order to do so... Hmm... Isn't that like one of Dartins (I spelt that wrong probably, too) theories... That the physically and mentally strongest people will continue to reproduce and be at the top while their counterparts remain at the bottom of the scale? I, by your standards, would be considered poor. I WORK 30 hours a week at a grocery store and half the people I work with plan to be there forever. THey sit around for hours doing nothing and take 5x more breaks than are allowed. This is because the managers are idiots. I'm the one who doesn't even go on break... ANyway, it's quite obvious to me that this is just the way the world is. You can try to help certain people all you want, but they MUST have the self-motivation to get anywhere in this world... I do believe, however, that children of poor people need to be shown that they too can achieve anything if they put their minds to it... Anyway, enough of that... To summarize=== I, a conservative WASP, used Darwin's theory to back up a conservative view point---- there's a shocker for you.

Ok... I'm going to be a liberal now... GIVE POOR MEXICANS who illegally enter the country a million bucks so they can have the american dream...

While you're suing Harvard, you might get even more money by suing God for the same thing :)

Stop lying, Harvard2011. You honestly expect us to be so dumb that we can't count the years in your user name? You are not fooling anyone.

I'm not really sure where this amorphous rant is coming from. My first post was an attempt to discourage you from hijacking someone's harmless thread with political jabs that were, ultimately, ineffective and disprovable generalizations which, regardless of whether or not I agreed with them, seemed out of place. As of yet, I'm not really sure what your point has to do with the OP.

Wow. Harvard2011 got owned.

saxfreq1128-- Your posts are flawless in their logic (there's something about the way that you write and make an argument that I really like).

Harvard2011-- You write as if you were in fifth grade. And you also happen to make little to no sense. Not to mention your post is completely off topic. It's hard to believe that you think that people on a Harvard board cannot read your username and do not know what the numbers 2011 signify next to that obscur word next to it "Harvard" or something.
