I understand that if I leave my freshman year now, without any credits, I would be applying to other colleges for fall as a freshman. However, how do I include in my application that I attended current college for a month, realized I made a huge mistake, and left? Or do I not include it? I would be doing volunteer service for the rest of this year after dropping out. Thanks for any info.

All I can say is make sure your school will allow you to drop out without getting any W's or F's. That would screw you up a ton. I'd also say you should wait out the semester, huge mistake or not, it would look good that you stuck it through - and a semester is only 3 months, and you have one down already. If you apply to a school and they see you dropped out after a month of your last one, they may not want to take a chance on you thinking you could do the same to them.

I think you have to mention it on your apps. They could easily find out anyways.

Why are you thinking of leaving now? And, as a side or possibly core issue, how would your tuition payment fare? Lost? Partial refund?

Most likely, you would list your current college on the grid where it asks you to list all schools ever attended. For dates attended, you would put "September, 2008." You would then describe your reason for leaving either in "additional information" section of the app. Or in one of your essays if you choose to use one for that purpose.

You should also check the issue Lala is raising and think through the pros and cons of leaving now vs. finishing the term or year. I don't know which is right, but you don't want to act in haste and possibly regret it later.

If you have no record of having taken college level courses at a college, which would be determined by grades, you would not be considered a transfer for admissions. You'd ahve to apply as freshman student coming from high school.

Transfer admissions, even if its at the freshman level, is for students who have completed at least one semester, even if it was one class at a college, after high school graduation.

^^ I understand your point, liek. But that is not quite accurate. Schools usually distinguish transfer admissions from freshman admissions on the basis of whether you have ever been enrolled full-time in a college or U; OR, if enrolled part-time, whether you have obtained more than "x" credits. "X" being a different number depending on the school.

See Transfer Admissions 101 sticky; then check each individual school where you are considering applying.
