If I self-take AP exams, will colleges find it just as acceptable?

I lived in the US up until the seventh grade and lived abroad for three years. I moved back this summer and I enrolled into a high school as a junior. I had good grades in my previous school (As) and I believe I am capable of taking honors and AP courses, but since I'm a technically an international transfer student, most of my classes are freshman or sophomore regular classes. I finished all of the math courses up to pre-calculus and I wanted to take AP Calculus AB this year, but I've been placed in Geometry. I also wanted AP Chemistry (I've taken the equivalent of probably honors Chemistry, Biology, and Physics in my previous school) and honors biology this year, but I was placed in regular Chemistry.

I'm really disappointed with my classes and I feel they won't challenge me. I was hoping to do all honors with three AP classes this year. I heard you need to be accepted into the honors program, but I'm new and I don't know if they'll let me join or not. The assistant principal told me that I need to wow the teachers and prove that I should be in more difficult classes, but at most, I'll probably be put into Honors Geometry, which would've been my freshman class here had I stayed.

I live in New York City, and they have a system called regents, so I will request the school to let me complete all of the math regents this January, and the science ones this June. If they agree, hopefully they'll let me switch out of geometry for an AP class. Does anyone have any experience with this? I'm new to to this, sorry.

I want to show colleges (especially the university I really want to go to - MIT) that I am capable of doing advanced work, so if the school does not allow me to enroll in any AP classes, I want to self-study and take at least three this May. If I only have regular classes on my transcript, but I have 4s and 5s (hopefully) on AP exams, would that show up anywhere on my transcript? Will the university take it as seriously, or would it be less credited than if I had taken the course and then received that grade?

I'm sorry I wrote so much, but thank you for your time!

Have you considered state university or community college courses? AP self study is good but not as good as taking the class (you don’t get the same experience as far as essays and projects and such)

That’s a good point; you’re right. I’ll definitely look into advanced classes outside of high school.

Aim for the national AP scholar, there are only about 3500 kids getting the award per year.
