Would it count as three years of language? I was allowed to skip French 2 b/c I did very well in French 1 and the teacher allowed me and 3 other people to do it. I got an A in both French 1 and Honors French 3. Btw, I'm a junior.

I heard that 3-4 years of language is ideal, but I decided not to take AP French because I am already taking 4 other difficult AP classes and didn't want to overload my schedule even more. Does it count as 2 or 3 years and does it look bad that I only took 2 years? For schools like Tufts and NYU?

You can check the colleges’ web sites or ask them directly how they will count it.

Many colleges are looking for level completed or other proof of some level of proficiency (in which case getting an A in French 3 honors would count as having completed the third level, regardless of whether you took the lower levels), but if you are not sure, check specifically with the colleges.

But also check the colleges’ graduation requirements to see if taking one or more additional years of the language beyond the minimum needed for admission can help you (e.g. by placing you into a higher level in college so that you do not have to take as many courses in college).

Thanks for the info. I went on the NYU website and it did say 3 years of language is preferable but they might be assuming the student didn’t skip a year. Either way, there is no way I’m taking AP French and if I take it next year I’ll have forgotten everything :l
