If the regular decision deadline is January 1st and I submitted my application at 11:59:25 PM that day, is it still considered on time?
Also, I don’t need the lectures.
Yeah I think you are good. It should still show January 1st on your application. At least you aren’t me who just posted at 12:00 on the dot and am stressed out on whether my application will be considered.
Do they not teach how to tell time in schools anymore, lol? Yes, you should be good; unless of course the deadline specifically mentioned a time zone (but in general you can assume they mean by the end of the day in the time zone where the school is located).
Having just double checked on whether my S18’s NYU RD app was submitted timely or not a few minutes ago . . . . after he got a notification that it was received on 1/2/18 (which would be late), I am happy to copy the following from the Common App website:
"To meet an application deadline, you must submit your application materials by 11:59 pm on the deadline date posted on your Dashboard. The end of the deadline date is in your local time zone, not the college’s time zone. Keep in mind, all timestamps are recorded in EST (US Eastern Standard Time). It is always better to submit well before 11:59 pm to avoid last minute issues with your computer or internet access that might cause you to miss the deadline!
Example 1
You live in New York and have an application with a deadline of January 1. You have until 11:59 pm Eastern Standard Time on January 1 to submit your application.
Example 2
You live in California and have an application with a deadline of January 1. You have until 11:59 pm Pacific Standard Time on January 1 to submit your application."
So, we are relieved that the 1/2/18 timestamp did not mean that the application was late, since we are in California. He also got an email saying the application was received.
Good luck!
@pickledginger Got this in NYU email
(Application Deadline and Technical Issues:
Our first-year application deadline remains January 1 at 11:59 pm (in your local timezone). All applications must be submitted electronically by this date. If you encounter technical problems submitting your application or supporting credentials, you should resolve your issue well in advance of the deadline by contacting the Common Application through their website at commonapp.org.)
@labegg, in answer to your question about doesn’t anyone tell time anymore, you’d be surprised. I know high school students who can’t tell analog time. I realize these many of these posters are sitting at a computer, but still.
