I’m interested in a lot of things with biotechnology, such as tissue engineering, regenerative medicine, or even agricultural engineering concerning biofuels. The problem is, I’ve gotten waitlisted on UCSD for Bioengineering: Biotechnology and I’m having a hard time comparing other schools I have applied to. I got accepted to UCSB, UCR, and CSULB and I’m waiting on UCB or Calpoly. In the event that I’m not accepted to the last two or UCSD, I’m not sure where I should go to. For UCSB, I got accepted into pre-biology, and if I qualify I plan to pursue a degree in Biochemistry - Molecular Biology. I got into UCR for Bioengineering, and CSULB for Biomedical Engineering. I love the idea of going to Long Beach for the city, but I heard the biomedical engineering program is fairly new and isn’t all that great. UCR and UCSB seem like the best bet so far. What are the chances of getting into the biotechnology field with the major I’d like to pursue for UCSB? I’d like to enter a good school, but I also want to live in a place where I’d be motivated and have things to do so that I can fully enjoy myself there, too.
All the schools listed will get you to your goal but you need to take advantage of the opportunities that are available. No one school is going hand you these opportunities, you need to go out and search for them yourself.
Biotech is a broad field and your interests are equally broad. All are good schools, so research each schools curriculum, check out the career center and find the best fit based on your criteria. Sounds like you are leaning towards UCSB so go for it.
