Would charging 40 bucks an hour be reasonable?

As a mom, I wouldn't hire a young person at 40$ per hour if they were just starting out....too much money with little track record....and since mommy would be paying....

We had a tutor and she started out at 20 an hour - she was jr in HS, after two years, with nice recommendations, she was able to charge 40 an hour, but as we were her oldest and first clients, we got to stay at 25 an hour...this girl had class

Start at 25$ an hour, unless you live somewhere really rich or really poor.

Aahh........ill start at 25 bucks/hr.

I know kids who pay $200/per hour

200 an hour is fools money....sorry but if the kid is that stupid to need a 200 dollar an hour tutor....

One more thing occurred to me recently:

A tutor who charges $45/hr. but travels to parent homes will actually be making more like $20-25/hr. If you get students to come to you, you can usually effectively double your income. (It's also a much better use of your time: you get experience much more quickly, and you begin to build word-of-mouth more quickly as well). I'd make a priority out of not traveling if possible. If you feel that traveling gives you an advantage, make sure to calculate the time and cost of transportation--and do it conservatively; don't be overly optimistic.
