If I was asked for an interview, does that mean they've already read my application?

Today a Stanford alumni requested to meet me for an interview. Does this mean Stanford already read over my Common App application? I applied REA like three days ago, so I’d be surprised if they already read my application.

I doubt. As soon as they have your application, they pass on your information to interviewers in your area. More detail is in the FAQ section of undergraduate admissions on the Stanford website.
Also, I hope yours goes well! I’m an international so I’m hoping I get one too.

@ksinke97 What did your interview letter say? Was it optional the way how the interviewer said it?

As someone who interviewed for Stanford in the past, I can assure you that it means nothing. We interviewers get no information at all beyond contact info. We go in assuming you are smart, talented and hard-working and since the interview is informational, not evaluative, it should be low stress for you (and us). Have fun talking to your interviewer!

Yes, @boomboom123 it was optional! The guy actually told me at the interview he doesn’t get any information and that he couldn’t read over my application, so I guess that answers my question.

Thanks everyone!

Of course I wouldn’t ask you to go into the details, but generally, what was it like? What do you think the interviewer had in mind, and what kind of things did they want to know about you? I have an interview too, and will let it flow conversationally, but am still curious.

It means nothing.

@collegederp It felt like a pretty natural conversation. It went for an hour and the guy asked me a lot about what I liked to do both inside and outside of school. He also wanted to know what I liked about Stanford. Also we randomly got into a few discussions about random things. He also asked what I would contribute to Stanford. Then he asked me if I had any questions…I think that the questions you ask are kind of important so I would have a good amount of questions because I regret not asking as many…he seemed like disappointed or something that I only asked like three questions. Maybe that’s just me reading it wrong though…my interviewer was kind of shy.

@ksinke97 Thank you, that was helpful. I currently don’t have answers to how I would contribute to Stanford. I have always thought about how it would affect me. (This sounds egocentric, I know)

After having spent two months there, I don’t have any questions either; rather, an effusive flow of reasons I love Stanford and its culture.
