If I were to join clubs junior year?

OK, so this year, I'm a sophomore, and I'm in four clubs. But I feel like the lack of a club where I can track volunteer hours (ex. Beta, Interact, etc.) is going to hurt me.

If I start these clubs in Junior year, will it have any impact at all on my app? Is two years enough?

If it’s a matter of accounting, with the presumption that “more” hours is better, and “much more” is best, then neither the clubs you’re currently counting or the ones that you may join next year will make much difference in applications for selective colleges.

You may need to step back and identify your true passion(s). If to pursue them as a student it means joining clubs, then what matters is what you achieve in those clubs, and your specific roles in those achievements. So a club that provides tutoring for low income middle school students might be an example, and the results such as your role in bringing 5 students from failure to success (based on test scores perhaps), and your role in the club, as for example the front line for assessing students as tutors or tutoring candidates. I’m sure you can construct realistic examples based on your school and community.

Frankly, the schools where ECs matter for admission will only care if you truly have an outstanding EC or two.

A laundry list of clubs is commonplace. But so it is with most applicants. And most colleges don’t care anything about applicants’ ECs.

Don’t start clubs for superficial reasons. Adcoms will see through the application padding.

I wasn’t planning on starting any clubs, really. I just wanted to know whether two years would be enough for a club.

I could just track hours normally for now, right? Like with a community service form or sheet with hours on them?
