<p>I don’t know of a college in the country that starts reading applications at the stroke of midnight on January 1. It usually takes them a few days to finish compiling all of the application materials. If you are truly worried, call the admissions office first thing in the morning and explain that the Common App stamped you with a Jan. 2 deadline.</p>
