If my score goes down...

If my score goes down, do you think it'll look bad when it comes to sending it to colleges? I think i did terrible on the Nov SAT compared to the Jan SAT. And no, I am not one of those 2000+ people who like to complain that they're score isnt perfect. Should I cancel and take the december one? What should I do?

bump! i need advice.

i don’t think you should cancel, because you could’ve done better than you thought. plus, colleges are supposed to look only at your highest scores. i think you should wait until you get these scores back and then if you don’t like them sign up for the january ones, or at least that’s what i’m doing :)

the problem is that the nov one was my third SAT. UCs dont take jan SATs, so i cant take that road…

ohhh…i just assumed you were a junior like me. in that case… if you’re SURE you did worse than before, then cancel and take in december. but you might wanna get advice from a few others too on this one. :)

bump! i need advice guys!

a lower score will definitely drag you down.

Woah, honestly, I think you should NEVER cancel your score (unless you like fall asleep…). But seriously, you paid 45 bucks and you deserve a score. You very well may have have aced one section but failed the others. That one really high score in one section carries on to other tests (I think so at least). And above all, colleges only want your best score.

only rational reasons for cancellation…
You are not a student of 2010 or beyond (i.e. you are a senior and will graduate before 2010).
You have some objective reason for knowing that your score suffered in some way (e.g. your calculator died in the middle of the math, you realized too late that you mis-bubbled an entire section, or you had some emergency during the test that prevented you from completing one or more sections). “I just don’t think I did good” is not a valid reason.
You have contacted the colleges you are most interested in and confirmed that they consider all of your scores in their admissions decisions (e.g. they do not consider just your highest score and instead average all of your scores).

i feel like i did do good in the reading section for once. ive been averaging 570-630 on practice exams and the last score i got was a 530. but its the math and writing score that i feel thats going to bring me down. i know i left about 9 blank and a couple of mistakes, 3 more than the last time. i got 690 on my math score last time with six blank and one wrong. i didnt feel so good on both writing sections (i had a car alarm going off during the last writing section :(). and UCs dont superscore…
argh!!! i thought i was going to do good since i was getting 1800-2000 on my practice tests! now im looking at a possible 1600-1700 compare to a 1790 last time!! ■■■!!
the money isnt the problem for me, i just need a better score that gets me further…
