If Princeton is the best school in New Jersey, then whats 2nd?

Obviously Princeton is the best. But what is its distant second place?

IMO, Rutgers is second, followed by TCNJ, then probably Ramapo or FDU

I’d probably say TCNJ over Rutgers…

^ a lot of people would say that, but I don’t agree…I don’t see how TCNJ is “better” than Rutgers…nobody even knows what TCNJ is outside of the tri-state area and Pennsylvania…Rutgers is NJ’s main state school and has some departments that are nationally ranked (it is one of the nation’s top schools for Philosophy)…but that’s just my opinion…obviously TCNJ would be better for you if you like a smaller school, but if you want to compare both schools, I would think Rutgers has more to offer

What about Drew?

without a doubt, Rutgers

I know loads of people who got into Rutgers from my HS who were denied or waitlisted at TCNJ…
As for something less anecdotal, TCNJ is ranked 6 among “Master’s Universities” in the North (from USNews) whereas Rutgers is ranked 26.

The issue of TCNJ’s admissions is often brought up in order to bolster its image; however, i think this is merely a facade that is meant to make it seem more prestigious and selective when it really isn’t…This attempts to increase the quality of the student body but does nothing to increase the quality of the education and the TCNJ degree…For example, a girl at my school was wait listed at Dartmouth and TCNJ…obviously TCNJ is nowhere near as highly regarded or as selective as Dartmouth, but they seem to think they are…

The ranking you offered includes Rutgers - Camden not the major hub in New Brunswick which is ranked 64 in the nation; therefore, you cannot use that ranking of small northeastern schools to justify TCNJ’s superiority as they are both in different categories…while admission to TCNJ is getting more difficult, this is due to the admissions committee there arbitrarily raising the bar in order to attract New Jersey’s brightest…

Master’s Universities offer few doctoral programs, which excludes Rutgers - New Brunswick as it is a large research institution.

Way to debunk his whole argument, lol.

Definitely TCNJ. Harder to get into, small classes, happy students . …

I never really put that much effort into this. Good points.
It’s not like I have a personal stake in this or anything. It’s just my anecdotal info from the opinions of people around me.

haha lol, its just that people in my school often underrate Rutgers a lot and place TCNJ on a pedestal so i did some research on my own…I also applied to both schools and was considering both at one point so I had to know which was really “better”

i dunno guy i think our initial assumptions has to be reviewed. I mean who says Princeton is the number 1 school in Jersey? :P

Yeah, who says Princeton is in New Jersey? :-P
