Given that I have a 2170 on the SAT but took the ACT and got a 34 or 35, would admissions base my admission solely on the ACT score? Or would they diminish the weight of my ACT score because of the ~100-150pt difference(after conversion) between it and the SAT?

Well in reality there is no true conversion between the SAT and the ACT, but anyway, I'm pretty sure they consider only what you want them to consider, though nonetheless a 2170 is quite an excellent score. Though I figure the reason you bring this is up is because you probably have SAT II scores thus they would see your SAT I scores no matter what, but I'm pretty sure you should be able to denote which score you want considered, or at best only list the scores you want them to consider on your application. And if this is not the case [in reality you don't have SAT II scores] then you really shouldn't worry since you're not obliged to send them in this scenario. But anyway, colleges in reality want to see the best aspects of you the applicant so they usually turn towards the option which represents you in a better light.

I couldn't have asked for a more consoling post.

Though, any more comments would be very appreciated also.

^Agreed.

If you don't have SAT II scores, I don't think you even have to submit your SAT I scores.

If you do, you are still fine. Some people who do very well on the ACT will do poorly on the SAT...some people who do very well on the SAT will do poorly on the ACT (that's why there's two choices! Haha). They're different tests. Adcoms know this and so won't assume the scores will correlate. They'll consider whatever puts you in the best light, so I've heard.

(P.S. your point difference isn't that much anyway...I've taken the SAT 2 times and increased by 100 points just in between those two sittings! Without prep...colleges will just have to assume the first time was a fluke ;))

I also agree. There is no reason to send your SAT score in, unless you need SAT II scores even with the ACT or your SAT II scores are particularly good.

Colleges may say they just look at the high score. But assume it came down to you and someone else with the same ACT, everything else being equal except that this other person has a higher SAT score. Whom would they pick?

Now it could be that your high school reports test scores, in which case it isn't up to you. But I wouldn't worry too much -- your SAT score is an excellent score.
