If there is one piece of advice I can give to future transfer students...

DO NOT TRUST YOUR CC COUNSELORS/ADVISERS!

If you have a question about ANYTHING, and your CC's counselors cannot clearly answer it, call your school of choice and ask them directly.

Here I am, in the one of the most horrible college situation's I can think of... I got accepted to both UCLA and Cal, and now my admission to Cal might be in jeopardy because of the lack of oversight my counselors provided.

For the past 3 years they counted a course I took in Summer 2007 as UC transferable. A few days before the drop date to my Spring 2012 courses, I check with them one more time (as I always did before I dropped courses) and a counselor that I had never met before told me that Summer 2007 course was not transferable.

Great news to get when you need to drop courses that you could not pass because you had to work to support your family after your father was disabled from an accident at work.

Fortunately for me, UCLA took some mercy on me and is letting me take a 1 unit course over the Summer.

Cal is not looking so good... They are hard to contact and I get the impression they aren't going to be as kind as UCLA.

Please everyone, double, triple, quadruple check EVERYTHING AND ANYTHING YOU MIGHT HAVE A QUESTION ABOUT.

which is why i always researched all my options / information online. Counselors jobs can be replaced by the internet. Information is out there…

Yea, funny how assist.org says “ASSIST does not take the place of a counselor on your campus. It is intended to help students and counselors work together to establish an appropriate path toward transferring from a public California community college to a public California university.”

I agree ieatsharks, the internet has a wealth of information. Meta-Data is very important though!
