If we're not admitted to our 1st or 2nd choice, are we considered for general studies?

My first choice is math, and I’m trying to pick my second choice major strategically. Should I choose undeclared CNS, or general studies (my intent would be to transfer into math later on)? Undeclared CNS would be ideal, but it’s certainly more competitive than UGS. Or are all applicants considered for UGS automatically (in which case undeclared CNS would be best)? UT is a reach for me and I don’t want to get capped. I’m a Spring applicant by the way. I don’t think that’s relevant though. Plz help me I’m scared

Go on youtube and search on UT Admissions Guy. He has some great videos that answer lots of questions. Before listing UGS, search on the transfer rates from UGS to CNS or where ever you want to be so you are sure it is possible for you to transfer out of UGS to what you want. UT is a great school, but don’t pick something you don’t want to study just to try to get in there. CNS is very competitive. Good luck to you!

Don’t know how spring works but for fall admissions, those who did not get first choice majors had to pick from remaining open majors one of which was UGS. I would imagine Spring could be quite different from fall though. Might be worth a call if the videos above don’t answer the question.
