Fine. Pretty much setting things up.
Frank was behaving like a saint. But for Claire, looking at that face must be very, very difficult.

Theme:
Adjusting to a new life, adjusting to death. Excellent acting by Sam Heughan.
It must have been horrid to be a woman or a progressive man in those days (scene with the boss of history department, hospital).
No nurse would have asked the question at the end but it made for a good ending.
I thought it did indeed set things up well. I donāt have the memory for details many Outlander fans do, but it seemed to follow the book (Voyager) pretty faithfully.
Props to Sam, occasionally IMO he overacts (he looks ādeterminedā so often) but this was good. Cate too.
That said, itās set up/fill in blanks episode (like in the book), the exciting stuff, IMO, happened in the last episode of season 2, which I rewatched afterward.
Glad itās back!
PS: Thread going about colleges everyone knows the name of, funny that Outlander features Harvard so prominently. H is the one I said was most recognizable name because it is so often a stand in for āsmart personā in tv and movies.
I loved it! Tobias is some fantastic actor! I loved in the end how they came together, so believable. It truly showed how Claire did love both men. The hut scene was hard to listen to the gunshots. I loved Lord Melton. Although it was setting things up, I think it really stayed true to the story as much as possible and was a good show in its own right. I agree it must be so difficult to look at Frank. But I see Frank in those scenes, not BJRā¦again kudos to fine acting.
Although I enjoy the series, Sam still just isnāt Jamie to me. I like watching him and seeing the story come to life, though.
I loved it! So glad it is back and I felt it followed the books well. I thought Lord Melton was played well. I canāt stand the Frank from the books but Tobias makes you feel more sympathetic which the author did want. He is an outstanding actor. I just wish the opening had been two hours! Of course I always want more! Canāt wait for next week!
^^^we have almost the same post!
I watched Ep 2 early today. I liked it a LOT. Much better than Ep 1 I thought. Hopefully that means good things for the season.
I enjoyed Ep2! I didnāt like how they changed the scene with Fergus because it has implications in future episodes but I can get over that. The dialogue between Mary and Jamie bothered me. For some reason I thought the words spoken were the same used between Jamie and Claire. I may be wrong but it bugged me. I love Jenny!
^^ it was a dialogue between Claire and Frank not Mary and Jamie that bugged me. I just rewatched but I could have sworn those were words between Claire and Jamie.
What scene with Fergus are you referring? I thought it played out like the book? I thought it was a great episode and for the first time I felt like I was seeing Jamie come to life. He really looked like what I imagined he would look during this time and his attitude and acting was spot on. Canāt wait until next week.
With Fergus it was the he didnāt take the cask up the hill so there will be no Leap Oā the Cask for Brianna and Roger to find on a map. Plus it was way more brutal than in the book.
I finally caught up and finished season 2. Phewā¦ Iāll watch episodes 1 and 2 and maybe 3 tonight to be truly caught up. Iāve read all the books so Iām not worried about spoilers but Iāve forgotten a lot.
I donāt remember Columās and Dougalās deaths to be like they were depicted. No big deal but Iām wondering.
I was completely mesmerized and horrified by the 1968 Claire. That hair! That horrifying eye shadow! I canāt wait until she goes back and chucks all that. Somehow the corsets seemed less unnatural than those 60s dos.
I donāt like Brianna much but she wasnāt terribly likeable in the books either. Roger is a cutie. No green eyes like his great, greatā¦ grandma, but still a cutie. The non-engineering Bree bugs me because she pushes certain inventions later that allow Claire to do surgery better. Not sure what theyāll do with that if they ever get there.
As for the gore, well there was a bit of that in the books too. Jamieās whole torturous treatment by Jack Randall, and some of the details of Claireās surgeries were dwelled upon considerably in the books. You might say it is true to the times but I think itās just something the author likes for whatever reason. I watch on my iPad and can easily hide or skip ahead!
Exactly!! I loved the beard, actually. But he was just spot-on in a way I havenāt seen yet.
I wish Sam would grow his hair out, so they could plait it. I donāt know why they donāt do that. Maybe he looks more handsome with the wild curly mop.
I think Claire and Frank are still in the 50s. Not 1968.
The initial jump, back in last season, was to 1968 when Brianna is 20 years old and they meet Roger at Reverand Wakefieldās funeral.
Now, the trio is doing research on what happened right after the battle and they are moving forward in time, both for Jaime and Claire, from the battle and from when Claire and Frank move to Boston.
Oh, okay, I misunderstood. I thought you were referring to the Claire-and-Frank-in-Cambridge portion.
Another great episode. Love LJG, but why oh why, didnāt they make him blonde! If they can dye Sams hair, why not his?
I liked it too! As much as the previous one, anyway.

Frank was just starting to be a jerk and then boom, dead by the end of the episode. Now that both of Tobiasā characters have died, is that it, or will there be flashbacks for him?
I thought they glossed over the whole treasure-silkie thing, but I guess I donāt think much of it until Ian anyhowā¦and itās been awhile since I read the book so I forget why they even went to Jamaica, was it to find him?? We know the white witch in this case is not Claire but actually Geillis, right? And I know the significance of the gem Jamie brought back form the empty box but I forget how he gets it back? Someone uses it to travel through the stones, no?
I may have to re-readā¦
