Outlander casts Rollo for season 4
So cute!
Very cute
Iāve been enjoying The White Princess on Starz. Maybe more than I enjoyed the White Queen, which was quite a lot.
Season 3 of Outlander is now listed for September, which is way later than had originally been announced but will have 13 episodes. As a fan of the books since the very first minute, Iām disappointed in a lot of the casting and Rollo the dog is no exception- just not as I ever pictured him at all.
I like The White Princess too! Itās much better than The White Queen because theyāre not cramming three books into one like they did with the first series- I wish it wasnāt too late to go back and remedy that. BBC One really fouled that one up by mashing the Red Queen and The Kingmakerās Daughter in with the initial book and not having the $$ to do it up right. Elizabeth and Margaret were each very interesting in their own right and should have had their own shows, and then developing the story of Richard III, Anne Neville and the storm around them would have been amazing!
The only casting choice I have been really disappointed in is Brianna. While I get that the actor must be able to ACT, Briannaās appearance, like Jamieās, is a major plot point, not just a simple physical description. So much is made of the fact that Brianna is very very tall-and in the time travel sections, her height is extremely notable. The actress they hired for Brianna is not only not tall, it seems she is rather short.
Rollo-meh, donāt really care.
ETA: I just looked her up, and Sophie Skelton is actually 5ā8", taller than I realized. Yet she is actually shorter than Cartiona Balfe (5ā10"), who is much taller than Claire, who I believe is ātallā at 5ā6" or so.
I agree that the casting of the principals has failed on the physical appearance issue. I still like Catriona Balfe as Claire, though. She and Tobias Menzies are particularly excellent in their roles.Brianna is particularly jarring. On the other hand, as I believe I said somewhere above, she does look as if she could be TV Jamieās child.
If you think about it, Frank was confronted daily with an image of the man his wife really loved in the form of his daughter: a 6 ft tall, red-headed Viking with brilliant blue eyes. This Brianna could just as easily he his.I find it hard to believe that they couldnāt find someone better for the part.
Complete agreement about the āBreeā, plus, sheās supposed to be American, and with a Boston accent to boot! There were a few really key points in the books: Claireās wildly curly hair and āsherry-colored eyesā, Jaimieās blue ācat eyesā, height & red hair, and Briannaās having Jamieās height, hair & eyes ( and we could mention the fact that Ian was supposed to be tall and black-haired, and even THAT was too hard for the casting agents to come up with!).
The Bree they hired isnāt even a great actress, and there has been plenty of discussion on various boards about how disgusted fans are with her so far. Given the vast pool of young actresses to choose from, I find it really hard to believe that there wasnāt someone better out thereā¦
Are we all getting excited for this weekend? I watched the last show again, as itās been well over a year. I know what happens, but I wanted to see the show. I have to say I am so disappointed with a the actors that play Roger and Bree, especially Bree. A big part of who she is, is her physical presence. 6ā tall, strong, a force to be reckoned with. You canāt tell me this was the best they could do. Someone did someone else a favor and got her cast. Roger is supposed to be drop dead gorgeous. They are such major players, Iām so bummed. I sure do hope LJG turns out to be perfect, heās my 2nd favorite character next to Jamie.
Good idea to re-watch the last episode, I think I will too.
Iām excited but not as excited as I was last year, as I didnāt enjoy season two all that much. But I didnāt enjoy book two all that much either, and book 3 was great. So I am hopefulā¦
I almost posted, but it seemed so trivial compared with all of the disasters going on in Texas, now the Caribbean and Florida, and the PNW. But I canāt prevent any of those things, can only react with donations and any other help I can come up with. So yes, I will be watching. I agree about the casting of Brianna, less bothered by Roger, and have actually come to like Sam and Catriona very much.
Voyager is my favorite book, so Iāve been looking forward to this for a long time. DH got hooked too, but the Cowboys are playing the Giants Sunday night, so heās lobbying for recording Outlander and watching it Monday night. What would you all do?
Iām not watching it until Sunday. I want to be alone. My DH would be making wisecracks. I really really hope they donāt mess up the reunion. I envision that scene in detail.
Will they do the reunion in the first episode? I thought there was more to coverā¦but I guess, who knows, since the TV series does things in order rather than in flashbacks, mostly?

Wait, I thought the premiere WAS on Sunday.
Itās the 10th.
Right, and the 10th is Sunday, right? Call me confused.
Youāre right. I was confused, as it was always on Saturday nights.
I like Sundays. GOT -> short break -> Outlander
I watched Season 3 Episode 1 earlier today online. I am near Tampa and was concerned about losing power later. In the face of the storm, itās important to have our priorities!
Iāll do it laterā¦I also watch via Starz app
Iāve just started watching The Night Manager, and cannot help being struck by how well Tom Hiddleston would have worked as Roger (or Jamie, for that matter) and how well Elizabeth Debicki would have worked as Brianna. She can certainly act, and I think she is 6ā3"! Red hair color and sheās all set!
Well, what did everyone think of the first episode?
