If you are a fan of the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon

Agree with all of the above. I think episode 8 was vastly better, and I particularly liked the scene with Jamie and Joan which didn’t happen in the book but was a great addition.
I had to laugh at the aging they did on Laoghaire. Despite being ten years younger than Claire, she looks about sixty and they put her in Mrs. Fitz’s wig!
Also that scene where Young Ian is walking back to shore with the large chest of treasure. How is he proposing to swim back with that? On the other hand I’ve seen my teenagers do stuff without thinking so maybe there’s a reality to it.

Diana does say in the books that Claire looks much younger than the 1700s women, because of advances in health and diet and all that.

@AlbionGirl I wondering that same thing. Earlier when Jamie was telling Claire of going to look for her on the island of the silkies because of Simon Kerrs references to the White Witch he said he only took one gem since he couldn’t swim with all the treasure. I forget how that scene transpires in the book though I seem to remember that the whole family knew of the treasure and the other boys had swum out to get some of it when it was sorely needed. Why Ian would come running out with the entire chest is beyond me.

Maybe the plan was for Ian to swim with a bit at a time. They didn’t think they were going to have company, after all.

Yes, but Jenny who is living in the same era, same place, has had more children, and is older than Laoghaire also looks younger than her. It’s not a big deal, just made me chuckle.

They’d better pitch a tent on the clifftop then. I don’t think even Superman could make several trips swimming that distance through freezing water in a day. LOL!

Nobody had a row boat?

So, how did you like Episode 9? I enjoyed it, but too much of vomiting and wretching sounds. Did we really have to see Jamie’s vomit? Bleh. The second half of Voyager was one of my least favorite of the first 6 books ( I’m not a fan of the last 2). So, I hope I enjoy the the rest of the series more than I did the rest of the book.

As far as this episode, I enjoyed seeing Jamie with the needles in his head and Willoughby.

It was a solid episode, I thought. I read so long ago I really don’t remember most events as they arise in the show (like the British ship of sick people) so it’s fun to see characters and situations pop up…I woke up thinking about Jocasta.

I can’t remember who actually kidnapped Little Ian…not Bonny, is it? Working for the “other” White Witch?

I really enjoyed it. Lots of historical sights and information, some gorgeous shots, and Catriona Balfr looks dashing with her hair tied back like this. (Of course they all do but it gave her a different look).
I also enjoyed the post episode commentary about shooting on a ship.
I totally did not expect the British ship to take off like this!!!

@MYOS1234 you are not a book reader, correct?

I will mark spoilers in he future if that’s so.

I started but am still reading Book 2…
It’s ok for the spoilers, they don’t make sense (for instance you’d mentioned Marsali but I had no idea who “Marsali” was and didn’t even connect it to “Marshleigh” in the past episode)

I read the books and forgot many of the details so I’m grateful for the truth tellers here! I didn’t remember the British stealing Claire but it was a smart thing to do and I’ve read other books where something like that has happened.

So what did you all think of the latest episode? The last half of book 3 I was never that found of. The episode was ok, a little dull in my opinion. I kept thinking if I hadn’t read the books, I probably wouldn’t be watching the series. I thought the time looking for water on the island was a bit too drawn out. Turtle Soup was enjoyable, as was the wedding. Other than those 2 scenes, I thought it was ‘eh’.

Based on the commentaries by the producers at the end ‘turtle soup’ is supposed to be iconic for book readers but I failed to see why (Claire drinks spiked soup, they have sex -> not all that highlight-of-novel worthy).
I liked the adventure aspect.

Claire seems to have varying alcohol tolerances. Her wedding night she drank enough whiskey to anesthetize an elephant and was still coherent… enough and had no apparent hang over. In this episode a bit of sherry turns her into a stumbling drunk. (He must have added it directly to the soup instead of while it was being made, otherwise the alcohol would have cooked off).

Why does she need penicillin? That whole scene made no sense to me.

Thwt part made sense to me!
Because of the deep cut in her arm that got infected (in tropical climes things get infected quickly). However it looks like she didn’t take that much penicillin with her!

Why not? She was burning up with fever after her gash became infected in a tropical locale. Sounds like a perfect time for antibiotics to me.

I also didn’t care for this part of the book. A lot of it seemed slow and pointless.

The last two episodes should have a lot of action, though.

I could have had less ship time last week and less wandering through the jungle this week, but overall I give these episodes a B-

I groaned aloud with the snake after the ants…was that in the book? I’d forgotten.
