My DVR automatically records new episodes, however, thanks for the reminder-I just let me friend know as I’m sure she would’ve missed it!
You guys are the best! I had no idea it started tonight. Thanks!
yippee!
I saw it last night on Amazon and it was really good. Close enough to the book to make me happy different enough to make it exciting!

Win a date with Sam Heughan! Very humorous!
It was interesting to see Wilmington in 1768. I always like the little details - the woolen wraps, the long socks, the long-tinned forks, the wide boats, the prominent gallows (reminded me of the visual sketchbook about reading Catherine called Birdy, with the quote “Almost 14 and I’ve yet to see a hanging!! My life is barren.”)
The end was a wallop.
(I’m trying to be very vague as I assume most haven’t watched it yet).
I love the books and have read Outlander 5 times and the rest 3. I’m having a hard time with them in America looking like they did when they met. Aren’t they supposed to be in their 50’s now? I wish they would at least attempt to age them.
I did like this episode, though.
Yes I calculated Claire is 53 and Jamie 47.
Spoiler:
Apparently the choice to cut the audio in the last scene and replace it with America the Beautiful has created a lot of controversy. What did you all think?
I wasn’t bothered by the music and could appreciate the artistic decision. What I didn’t like is that the whole last scene felt super rushed and moved at a different pace than the rest of the episode. Just didn’t flow well for me.
I loved the song. What is happening vs. Jamie’s dream of America are in such striking contrast.
The film maker explained that he wanted to contrast the idealistic " our American dream, beautiful land, everything is possible"… with the fact that all of that is true AND only one part of the picture.
It also drove home that North Carolina is lawless - even more so than the Highlands, or at least, as much but more dangerous because Jamie’s clan doesn’t own the place.
Might be spoilerish**
The film maker also revealed that ** is a psychopath.
That would explain why he chose to take something of less monetary value but of significance.
When I read the books I found this section to be slow and not real exciting but it set up so many plot lines later. The film version moved much faster and everything is there. I wonder if some may have gone by a bit too fast. At first I wasn’t sure if I liked the music during final seen but I decided not hearing what was occurring did not detract from its intensity and in some ways allowed you to focus on what was happening visually.

I spent the entire episode on pins and needles waiting for that robbery, because I couldn’t remember when or where it happened from my reading, only that is DID happen. Now I have to wait for the Breanna event
Liked the discussion about American dream and Native Americans. Liked the discussion about his drowning nightmare.
Overall I thought good episode. Was a little surprised by the music in the last but it was OK.
Can’t wait to meet Jocasta!

The choice of Sophie Skelton as Breanna is the only casting choice I’m really unhappy with. She is supposed to be imposingly tall and immediately recognizable as Jamie’s daughter. As she is portrayed in the movies thusfar she is neither. To me the red hair just isn’t enough. If it weren’t such a large part of her persona in the books perhaps it wouldn’t matter to me but it is.
@lvvcsf, I completely agree. The casting of Brianna has been a bone of contention for many Outlander book fans from the very beginning.
I also agree. Her height and fierceness is a big part of who she is. They screwed up.
I agree too about Sophie. I was less than impressed last season but she and Richard Rankin seem to have better chemistry in their interviews so I’m hoping for an improvement this season.

I REALLY hope they stay true to the scene where Brianna calls Laoghaire out for trying to have Claire killed. That was very satisfying.
