<p>Would you still be accepted even if you wrote the most horrible and crappy essays for UT Austin? Technically, they have to accept you even if you put in zero effort on your essays since the top 8% are guaranteed admission by law, right?</p>

<p>TXArtemis is correct. It will hurt you if you are applying to any competitive major. If you are not, then yes, you can write a crappy essay. I know someone who wrote one sentence.</p>
<p>I put in some essays from my AP Lit class that had nothing to do with the prompt (the scholarship deadline was in like 10 mins when I decided to do this) and got into Engineering with a scholarship.
