if you could go to davis, irvine, or san diego which would you choose?

Personally I love the atmospheres of Davis and Irvine. They are both very tranquil and park-like and seem to have a lot of similar architecture and “vibe”. In my opinion you can’t go wrong with either of them. San Diego is definitely prime real estate but I can’t help but feel that I’m in the L.A. Zoo with all of the eucalyptus. I mean it’s everywhere…

Itachirumon - why wouldnt u advise davis?

kmazza- why davis over irvine?

@alanav09 – Just from what I’ve heard, Irvine and San Diego are far far FAR better schools than Davis:
Merced/Riverside
Riverside/Merced
Davis
Santa Cruz
Santa Barbara
San Diego/Irvine
Irvine/San Diego
Los Angeles
Berkley

Not counting things like UCSF unless I’m mistaken somewhat in the ranking this is the general accepted ranking worst to best UC. It’s no offense but Davis just isn’t that difficult to get into from what I’ve heard, it’s one of the lower-tier UCs. Irvine and San Diego are both higher-tier. That’s actually an evolution in thinking for me, I used to have no respect for UCI and now it’s my 2nd choice variant (that is to say I’m equally accepting of it and San Diego myself) after UCLA. Shoot for the best one you can

Itachirumon is a ■■■■■. Ignorance is the downfall of humanity.

The only reason for the sudden spike in interest about San Diego is it was #3 last year in the UC rankings.

Davis competes with irvine overall. Ten years ago it was primarily an ag n soc econ poli sci uni. They sought grants and expanded and now huge. Also hugely popular x the us cuz the education is high quality. It is way outskirt bay area tho still fun. Sc has imo better philosophy program n cool coastal location.

What about engineering guys?

Davis ranks in top 50 x the us in ag bio engineering biz poli sci law math english etc even beatin irvine in many in less time.

UCLA and UCB thats it. The rest don’t matter much where you go. It is all about preferences.

I heard it was B, LA, SD, D, SB, and then I…?

I mean, yeah. It’s gotta be your preference in the end.

I’d choose SD over D or I though.

and i dont know about sd. If you look at college review sites, ucsd has like the worst ratings. everybody says the school is filled to the top with overly competitive, un-social, rude, and overly devout christians. everyone is socially awkward and its boring as hell. honestly those claims turn me away regardless of rankings.

I think the ones to go to would be davis, santa barbara, and santa cruz. :> I dunno about UCLA, but UCB if you’re really into eccentric stuff. Sure.

waits to be bashed hardcore for disobeying USNews

i thought the rankings were B, LA, UCSD, D, SB, I … as well… ive never heard that davis was bottom 4.

davis is deffs not bottom 4…its more like top 4: 1.berk, 2. ucla, 3. ucsd, 4. davis…and then the rest

UCI gets more applications than UCD.

[Which Colleges Get the Most Applications? - US News and World Report](http://www.usnews.com/education/best-colleges/articles/2011/01/24/which-colleges-get-the-most-applications)

Berkeley > UCLA > UCSD > UCSB = UCI = UCD > UCR = UCM

@SMCguy

You did not explicitly say so, but your comment implies that you think UCI is better than UCD because of the amount of applicants. The comparative amount of applications does not necessarily indicate that UCI is qualitatively better than UCD. After all, both UCSD and UCLA get more applications than UCB, yet Berkeley is better than UCLA in many ways (especially academically) and inarguably better than UCSD in nearly every way ([UCLA Receives 81,000 Freshman Applications for 2011 – More Than Any Other UC – and Sees Dramatic Spike in Latino Applicants - Los Angeles News - The Informer](http://blogs.laweekly.com/informer/2011/01/uc_applications_fall_2010.php)). One reason that UCI may get more applications than UCD (and why UCLA receives more applicants than UCB) is that it is located in SoCal, which is more populous and has many attractive non-academic features.

Overall, I have noticed that there seems to be a NorCal/SoCal divide. People in NorCal tend to either slightly favor UCD or agree with @poserbruin’s ordering. SoCal people tend to either slightly favor UCI/UCSB while belittling UCD or, also, agree with @poserbruin.

Personally, I’d probably go to UCSD. Academically, it is, by most accounts, the third best UC. It doesn’t exactly have a reputation for a great social atmosphere, but neither do UCI or UCD. CCC has taught me that what type of personality you have makes as much difference in how much fun you have as what college you attend. If you are a boring person then you will be bored regardless of whether you are at UCLA or UCSD.

Rankings are extremely unhelpful. It’s one thing that some schools come out on top consistently, but you’ll find that results vary quite widely.

For instance, one list ranks UCs like this: UCSD, UCB, UCLA, UCD, UCSB, UCR, UCI, UCSC. ([National University Rankings 2010 | Washington Monthly](http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/college_guide/rankings_2010/national_university_rank.php))

Just do your research and listen to your preferences.

Completely agree with BostonCrmPie. After UCB and UCLA it is completely up to the applicant’s preference. If you live in NoCal and going to UCD is better economically for you then go. Don’t go to UCSD just b/c it is the 3rd best UC in most “rankings”.

That said, I am a SoCal guy and I would list the UC’s like this for pre-med:
UCLA > UCSD > UCB > UCI > UCSB = UCD > UCR > UCSC > UCM
