Hi. I knew a girl who had gone to the same elementary school as me but we went to different high schools. Anyways, I was pretty sure that she got national merit scholar recognition for doing well in the writing section. I did well on my writing section too (I only missed three) and was wondering, does national merit award those who do well in one area?

The National Merit awards are based on a combination of all three scores.

Good luck!

To get some sort of national merit recognition (commended or Semi-finalist status), your PSAT scores should be at least around 200, possibly 201. Even if you get that score you may not be a semi-finalist as each state has cut off. It is the total that matters, not just one section. So if you did well in writing only, it will not help if you have not done will in other sections also.
