If you get rejected

I have a question. If a student with good stats applies late to the FMM major and gets rejected from the day program does the admissions office ever offer them a spot in the evening/weekend program instead? If not, is it then possible to turn around and reapply for evenings/weekends?

Obviously my DD would prefer the day program but since it is her fault she applied a month late (the admissions office said it would be ok to still submit) she would be more than happy to do the evening/weekend program as well. I am just wondering if FIT will automatically consider her for that option if there is no room left in the day program (assuming she would normally have been admitted - something I cannot know ofc).

I’ve read about a girl who got wait-listed but was then offered evening/weekend classes rather than day classes because those were full. So if your daughter gets wait-listed instead of a acceptance I think she can enroll into their evening/weekend classes if admissions offers her the option. However, I don’t think that’s the case if she gets rejected. If she’s rejected I think the only thing she can really do is re-apply for the Spring semester.
Hope that helps.

My D was wait-listed for this spring and was not offered other class options.

Thanks for the input. I guess I used the wrong phrasing lol. One of my DD’s friends (who she hasn’t seen in a couple of years) ended up in the night/weekend program for that same reason we had thought but I wasn’t sure if we just misunderstood because you can only apply for one program and not also show interest in the alternative.

I am not sure when my DD will hear back as she applied late but hopefully within a couple of weeks.

If she sent her application after Feb 1st, the chances of her getting accepted is slim. The first come first serve is how the acceptances work. Students who are already getting accepted now is because of their academic success. Also to add that FIT has a 32~% acceptance rate since it’s a top fashion school in the U.S. So the competition is high.

Goodfornothin, I am aware of the slim chances of her not being accepted. However, there is someone who posted on this board that they applied for FMM in July of last year and were accepted into the evening/weekend program so I am guessing that there may be some room in that program.

All of that said, I have never told my children to not apply because they probably won’t be accepted. My DD was accepted to four college dance programs with scholarships. However, when we started breaking down the cost vs benefit of a BFA in dance she decided to at least add another feasible option. FIT was the only other school/program she had been interested. The sun will not set on her dreams if she does not get in but she (and we as her parents) will have to make some big decisions on the other schools she has been accepted to (conservatory vs another SUNY with a solid dance program where she can minor in business and accrue credits to re-apply to FIT next year).

So did she get accepted ?

The FIT FB page says that decisions for late apps will be sent out “sometime after April 1st” so we still wait. I have to call today because I cannot tell on the MyFIT page if they received her transcript (which her GC sent out on March 1st). She only has one email from them (just noticed there even is MyFIT email) that asks for it so I assume they did receive it but there is no date of receipt (just her school name).
