^Agreed. Especially since it's for mandatory credit...

it's this semester. he said that the info they mailed us said we had to have approval from them to switch a class.

Did anyone accepted to Stanford and not get the Regents' scholarship to UCB or UCLA? Common occurrence?

I didn't get one, if that makes you feel better =D

EDIT: Am I feeling some bitter entitlement? =)

Kinda random, but does everyone's parents go 2 admit weekend? I know it says on the card they can come, but is that what most admits do?

Some parents definitely go; it's hard for me to estimate a percentage. If your parents think the programming sounds interesting and would like to go, they won't be alone, but they shouldn't feel pressured to do it.

my parents want to come. they do have some seminars and activities for parents, i think.

Your parents probably shouldn't plan on shadowing you the whole weekend, though. Certainly not when you're in the dorms. You'll want some (a lot of) time to hang out with students and other admits without the parents around.

I didn't go to my admit weekend, but last year, I don't think any of the kids had parents come to the dorm with them.

julyinoh: Of course not!!! :) I'm not going to either school, so it doesn't matter. I definitely don't think I'm entitled to anything because I got what I've wanted for the past who-knows-how-many-years. :D

how bad do my grades have to be for my admission to be rescinded?
I might get a couple of B's this semester..and I've had all A's except for 1 B+ since soph year =|

You're probably fine..

^haha thanks, I'm just paranoid!

B's are fine (or so I've heard...)! :)

yeah parents have different activities during admit weekend don't worry they'll have stuff to do.

I have a question...is the whole campus wireless? Like can you be lying outside doing homework and still get on the internet?

Also, does anybody have experience with astrophysics classes at Stanford?

Is Stanford ruled by Macs as one would reckon? I'm so attached to my laptop that I dont want to replace it with a Macbook!

I want to know about Astrophysics as well

Languages - how difficult are the intro courses? I plan on continuing Spanish and maybe looking into Russian. Is this feasible in conjunction with another major or am I dreaming?

spacepirate only about 50% of the computers at Stanford are Macs so you can keep your pc without any worries! :)

I second the question on languages: how difficult are they and how easy is it to pursue 2 (if I'm already fairly strong in one)?

I have a question...is the whole campus wireless? Like can you be lying outside doing homework and still get on the internet?:

yes. you might have trouble seeing the screen with the sun and all but lots of people have been doing this recently with the amazing weather we've been getting. :)

i also wanted to learn a lot of languages at stanford. or want to. i'll be taking 2 lang courses spring quarter, chinese bilingual and spanish communication. they're usually pretty fast-paced, but the grading is usually very lenient and the professors are amazing - the most students you'll ever have in a language class is 12ish so you'll get to know the prof really well. i definitely know people who are taking 2 languages; depends on what kind of class you take (communication? grammar? biligual if you already know some, esp. speaking?) - if you were to do intro for 2 languages, you'd already have 10 units, which is half of a full courseload....

Languages - how difficult are the intro courses? I plan on continuing Spanish and maybe looking into Russian. Is this feasible in conjunction with another major or am I dreaming?

intro courses are appropriately intense - you are learning a new language and a lot of memorization is involved, as always. there is actually a new modern language minor - take 3-4 2nd year or up courses in 3 languages + some other stuff to get it. how far do you want to continue spanish? there are classes beyond third year (assuming you test somewhere in 2nd, you'll be fine) but they're advanced advanced and might be getting into nitty gritty grammar stuff that might/might not be necessary.

it is feasible if you plan things out well and place into 2nd yearish Spanish...also depends on your major. you have to take a ton of classes to get a bio/engineering major, but not as many for polisci/english/etc...
