If you have the swine flu, is it legal to go to class?

An ethical dilemma....

Get good grades, or be a good citizen?

Being selfish sounds good, right? Is it better to go to class and maintain that 3.7 GPA since everyone is going to get infected anyway?

If you want to go to class and you don’t mind everyone in said class hating you then go ahead.

Otherwise stay home and enjoy your time off. I had the flu two weeks ago and it made for a great minivacation.

Legal, yes.
You get the oink oink and do your class a favor and stay the f* out of class. Teachers are being lenient, at least at my U.

No,

you are not supposed to.

My oncampus clinic said to stay in your dorm until 24 hours after the fever goes away on its own… Looks like i’m in for a long wait…

Two weeks of makeup work on top of everything else?

Where’d the two weeks come from? I had the flu and I missed three days of school. You’ll miss a maximum of 4.

It’s the flu. Go or don’t it doesn’t really matter.

Yeah, where are you getting two weeks?

And what make-up work? If you wanted to, you could turn it in through email, although chances are you’re going to feel like death. But if you feel like death and go to class, you can feel like death and stay home and do work there.

Unless you’re stupid about it, your grades aren’t going to drop drastically from missing a few days. You can manage, and plus, if you’re sick and in class, you probably won’t be very apt at paying attention, and you’ll probably be very distracting to other students.

My roommate got the swine flu last week. A little while after he told me, my throat started getting sore, so I left the room as long as I could… yet the fcker stayed for another few days until finally leaving for the weekend. And he’s still not back.

Point is, don’t infect other people unless you don’t mind getting your ass kicked later.

How would people know they got it from me?

I think the disease has affected your brain.

panic,

I experienced I similar situation. I’ve got swine flu and was instructed to remain in my dorm (a student flat shared with 3 grad students and 4 upperclassmen). Two of them got anxious and (not so) stuble about suggesting I’d leave the flat as long as I remained ill, which of course was not the case: University couldn’t and wouldn’t ban me from staying in my house when that was exactly what I was supposed and instructed to do.

So 2 of them got sick too, but unfortunately there was nothing I could do. Moving to a hotel was out of budget, let alone renting a suite for the week.

Different cirumstances, I guess. My roommate has a car, and his parents live near the university.

And obviously, going to class like the OP suggested is really ridiculous.

No. If you dare step foot on campus, the FBI will swarm and tackle your ass.

Lol, it’s still legal. But it’s HIGHLY discouraged. I was diagnosed with swine flu last week and the doctor was almost obnoxious about it and told me to quarantine myself for about a week and to not even set a foot on the campus for that time. She also gave me a big plastic mask to wear over my face in case “for whatever reason, I needed to leave the confines of my apartment”.

Don’t go to class. You need to rest.

It is obviously legal, but you will be a major A-hole.

That’s funny, you say it’s the selfish decision to go to class. No, it’s selfish to sit on you bum at the dorm and have an ironclad excuse to delay all tests/ assignments with free extensions.

Actually having the will to get up and trudge over to class with the flu to listen to innane babble makes you a super-nerd who has his priorities so out of wack, you should probably just go throw yourself in front of a bus.

Plus - there will be no work to make up. You have so much free time to do work you will probably be ahead of the rest of the class. That is, if you are not an utter dumb-a55. Unfortunately, merely asking the question of whether you should attend class with the flu is evidence to the contrary.

Don’t go to class until your fever’s been under 100 for at least 24 hours, otherwise, you’re just gonna get other people sick. Be courteous to your classmates.

I’ve had the flu twice this semester (probably both kinds haha)…I missed 3-4 days both times and caught up pretty quickly. You’ll be fine.

Agreed that not only is it painfully selfish to go to class with the flu, but you probably will feel terrible (fever, achey, cough, etc) and won’t get much out of it anyway. Stay away and get better.

Oh, and how will they know it’s you who infected them? You’ll be the person in class who is obviously sick, coughing, and pale.

Everyone will NOT get the flu if those who are ill will stay home and not infect others.

two weeks is incredibly off. and relatively speaking, swine flu isn’t that terrible of an illness its just really contagious.

also, why would you beat up your roommate for having swine flu? you’re contagious before symptoms fully develop, so he wouldn’t know if he passed it to you

“How would people know they got it from me?”

This obviously isn’t an “ethical dilemma” for you. . .
