Check out my e-pinion review! I wrote this as a freshman and it still applies- hopefully it will answer a lot of your questions.

Let me know if any of you have any other questions- I'm currently in Australia studying abroad for the semester but I'd be more than happy to help out!

hey gojumbos, do you have any ideas of the on campus recruiting on tufts, and the employment oppurtunites you get from tufts? im thinking of going in the field of ibanking, so could tufts econ help me in that? does top banking firms recruit at tufts?

I actually have a good friend who is pursuing i-banking and from what I gather Tufts does provide a strong on-campus recruitment program. In general, Career Services is a huge resource but, like many other things, you have to take the initiative to seek out these opportunities independently. If you do your research and attend the career fairs and workshops that are provided, Tufts will definitely help you achieve a strong job placement. As KJ mentioned, the JP Morgan CEO went to Tufts and from what I uderstand there is a very strong alumni network. My friend was recently interviewing for an internship and he said he was impressed with how many Tufts grads he ran into at the big NYC powerhouse firms.

Hope that helps! Feel free to pm me and I will give you the e-mail of my friend who would be more than happy to give you more details.

Here is the link to a set of photos I took a couple of years ago. It has a bunch of pics from around campus as well as pictures of Houston Hall, Miller Hall and Carmichael Hall (all on the uphill res quad), and you can see South Hall and West Hall as well.

Great pics Gojumbos!
Nerj, if you go click on http://www.ase.tufts.edu/reslife/TOP/residence_halls.html it will give you the residence hall options, floor plans, etc. Tufts is about to complete a beautiful new upper classmen hall with suite style housing. It should alleviate some of the housing shortage. Many upperclassmen would choose to live off-campus even if housing was available to them. After 3 years of dorm life, a house is an attractive option.
Hope this helps.

Is the residential quad kind of ragged looking? Most pictures I've seen of it show like a giant dirt patch, as opposed to what the academic quad looks like.

The res quad has had some issues with grass the past couple of years, especially since half of it was taken up by trailers for Fletcher construction this past semester, but it should be back to real grass soon. Anyone who is on campus now- comments?

Gojumbo: what are you doing in Australia? Do you get paid to do such a great job promoting Tufts? thanks for all of the insights, very helpful to an applicant choosing between Tufts, Cornell and UVA.

Now, what can you tell me about Tufts IR dept, life at Tufts and opportunities for music study for non-majors? Also, do you know anything about the horseback riding team? Thanks in advance.

That you for your kind compliments, Cosmopolitan!

Now, on to your questions. Tufts IR is known as being, hands down, among the best in the country. We have the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy right on campus, which was the first school ever devoted to the study of International Relations. This is an enormous resource to students, since Fletcher brings in world renowned professors and guest speakers, and students have the opportunity to enroll in courses at Fletcher while they are still an undergrad. Tufts is strong in many areas, but IR is simply its biggest forte, and it would be a shame to turn such a phenomenal program down. The university is extremely devoted to creating a globally aware student body, and even as a Psych major I have gained a lot from attending such an international institution.

As far as Music Study for non-music majors, Tufts still boasts the connection with the New England Conservatory, resulting in extremely talented students and fantastic music groups. We are also in the process of finishing construction on a brand new music building that will feature state of the art music libraries, along with practice and concert halls.

I can't tell you too much about the equestrian team other than that the couple of people who I know involved seem satisfied. Send me a PM and I will give you the e-mail of someone who your daughter could contact and ask more specific question...

Hope that helped! Let me know if you have any other questions.
