If you're transgender, can you benefit from female-based affirmative action?

For Caltech/MIT/olympiads/etc?

I know that the laws say that you can legally change your gender.

In which case, you can claim that you're female on all legal forms.

Which means they don't know that you're transgender, and ergo, that you can benefit from it by changing your gender.

Has anyone done that?

Yes, I’m sure many people do that all the time in order to game the system.

Are you having fun?

Can I undergo racial modification to make myself URM? I’ll probably actually get into the colleges on my list then.

wow InquisitiveOne, you really are living up o our screen name :D

You can legally change your age???

I deleted my post. But the “it” referred to the gender. Your question about it referring to the age doesn’t even make sense.

*up to your screen name

Yeah, that’s a good point.

Which means that some people who identify as trans will want to put “female” as their gender even when they’re legally male. And those who are legitimately trans should be able to do so. But on the other hand, this also easily opens the system up to abuse.

Sort of on topic, I’m pretty sure most women’s colleges are pushing out all female to male transgenders… Same for male colleges. Like, male to female transgenders can’t “dress up” as women.

Then shouldn’t female colleges accept MTF transgender people, as well as the reverse for male colleges?

I don’t think that they do. I mean if a MtF transgender clicks “female” on the gender option for the app, then the admissions officer won’t know. However I have trouble believing the school wouldn’t investigate and attempt to weed out MtFs who are open and vocal about being MtFs.

In other words, accepted into the college, but not accepted at the college.
