Ige?

Does anybody know about IGE (Interdisciplinary General Ed, I think)? My daughter got a letter about it, but we’re still confused. If any current students know about it – can you give some pros and cons to help her decide if it’s right for her. She’s a first time freshman, architecture major.

My son is an incoming freshman (mech. engineering) and I am encouraging him to do IGE. I feel like the small classes will be helpful to him and make it easier for him to communicate with professors and make some friends. Plus, I like the fact that they get an Arts package with it and can be exposed to plays, music, etc.

I can’t say I know too much about it, but I received a letter about it as well. (I’m an incoming freshman as well) It looks pretty helpful and fun to me, so I think I might give it a try.

For architecture, it would be very complementary. IGE is what is keeping Cal Poly Pomona from becoming a trade school and more of a wholesome university. IGE incorporates the liberal arts into the general education curriculum and encourages more student to student and teacher interaction. These are skills that will be necessary in a broad multi-disciplinary field such as architecture. I highly recommend it.
