Ignatius Seminars

So I am thinking of taking an ignatius seminar next year, and have found a few that I am quite interested in. Does anyone have any experience taking these - are they really useful, and how hard is it to get in? Any advice on the essay you have to write to get in would be great also. Thanks!

soccerlover678,

Congrats on your acceptance to Georgetown!

Yes, Ignatius Seminars can be highly worthwhile. They offer small classes with fascinating subjects and generally excellent professors. Michael Collins, for example, is one of the very best professors at Georgetown. His Ignatius Seminar on Shakespeare is widely regarded as an absolute treat.

Obtaining admission to these seminars involves an application process. It’s hard to quantify how competitive this process is. Just do your best to write essays that demonstrate intellectual curiosity as well as your ability to be an interesting and productive member of the class.

Keep in mind that Ignatius Seminars are electives that don’t satisfy core requirements. Don’t forget as well to do your due diligence about the professors in the seminars that interest you. RateMyProfessors.com is not infallible, but it can provide valuable information.

Good luck!
