Heya, well I really need some help with this,

I intend to double major in mathematics (applied, if possible) and mechanical engineering. Rensselaer IS more expensive, but I've gotten scholarships (from both) that makes the price almost exactly the same, so money is not an issue (well, in deciding between these schools, at least).

RIGHT NOW, I don't really know which way I'm leaning. For IIT, they offer applied mathematics (while Rensselaer only offers pure mathematics), and I've lived in Chicago for most of my life. Also, I intend to transfer (if I can) to the University of Chicago, so the transition wouldn't be as great (but then again, does that even really matter?) As for Rensselaer... well... it IS a much better school (world renowned Engineering), but they don't offer applied mathematics (the difference between pure and applied mathematics, is I understand correctly, is that pure mathematics goes really deep into theoretical math, while applied math is more... grounded, correct me if I'm wrong), which is quite a big turn off for me...

Am I overthinking this? I'm torn between the two and I don't know where I should go from here. If anyone out there could offer some insight, it would be much appreciated.

halp :(
