Schools in the US grade differently too. Its only in the final AP/IB exam that there’s a centralized system.

In India, only the 10th board marks, 12th board marks and (if taken) entrance examination ranking matters.

That’s all.

Nothing more. Nothing less.

3 pieces of paper representing 14 years of education.

IIT-K is not #1.Its IIT Mumbai.Followed by IIT Delhi.
I suggest you dont even think about IIT unless you’re atleast American Olymipiad Level(the national one).Otherwise, with just AP’s,you could do AIEEE,but not IIT.IIT toppers are always International Olym. Gold medallists.I knew Nitin Jain. The guy was a genius. He used to play PSP the whole day, came from a middle class normal family, gold medallist in astronomy and physics.
IIT requires on 60% in boards because they don’t care about your proficiency in the boards much as the level is KG level as compared to the syllabus for their exam.I know.I was in IIT prep in 11th.We finished the cbse curriculum portion of Conic Sections(parabola, ellipse, hyperbola) in exactly 10 minutes.Yep.10.And cbse is AP level.Although I didnt mind, most people wouldnt be able to handle that.On top of that every hour of class was followed by atleast 5 hours of self study as we covered so much in just that much time.Meaning 12 hours of study everyday.
If you’re upto that, then you may apply.

I didnt intend for the above post to discourage you,I just wanted to tell you the facts.IIT is not a ‘safety’ for MIT rejects.Admission there is as big a gamble.People prepare for IIT for 4 years and still dont make it(although they must be of just average intelligence then, anybody of above avg intelligence who spends 4 years should make it!).Each question in the test has never been seen before. They have a deptt. where people actually brainstorm for new questions. And that the papers have become slightly easier than before is not good news.

In my opinion, don’t even try. You’ll need to do your American coursework as well and unless you’re a born-genius there’s no way you’re gonna make it to one of the top IITs.
