Dasa-nit

Hey guys,

anyone of you have heard of the DASA-NIT program? Its a program for NRIs in india to use their sat subject test scores for NITs, IIITs, and some other institutions. I just wanted more information on the program, because i am eligible for it.

Thanks!

They have a website for that. It’s an alternative for the AIEEE for NRIs. Basically, you need either an American GED/ IB/ GCE A levels/ O levels(?) along with SAT I and SAT II in Physics, Chemistry and Maths IIC.

Check this out [DASA-2012 ( Direct Admission to Students Abroad )](http://www.dasanit.org/) :)

I know that, but thanks. I was just wondering if there are any people who know about it, because that website isn’t that informational.

@Anvesh- To qualify under DASA you must have completed your school from Outside India
i.e your 12th should be from a school outside India. So even if you are an NRI and you study in India you cannot apply under DASA

I don’t think so^. Cuz my neighbor is in NIT Surathkal, and he studied 9th onwards in INdia, but was a citizen of the US cuz he was born there.

http://dasanit.org/DASAflyer.pdf

But it is only for NIT surathkal and Karnataka. And I personaly think that you can get into very good US univs if u write good essays by seeing ur stats on the other thread.

PS: @anvesh, I think u PMed me, if u were the one, I deleted it by mistake. You can PM me now :)

@Anvesh- Please read the requirements
[DASA-2012 ( Direct Admission to Students Abroad )](http://www.dasanit.org/)

The residential requirement for DASA 2012-13 is relaxed from 3 years to 2 years for NRI candidates with a additional condition that candidate must pass the qualifying examination (inclusive of 11th and 12th standard or equivalent) from abroad only for the DASA 2012-13 admissions.

@Mrinal- No under DASA you can apply to any of the 22 NIT’s as well as to the 4-IIIT’s
NIT-Surathkal has been entrusted with the admission process this year

Oh, sorry. Didn’t see that :)

Yeah. I’ve been living in India since 2 years. that means I qualify, right?

@mrinal - yeah, i could. but the fees are very expensive, and i think getting a scholarship is ruled out, cuz im not either academically or athletically talented. I am still going to apply though.

@manrosh - Yeah, its for all NITs and IIITs.

^^ I think u have a chance at Gtech, it is ranked 5 in engineering and its not that expensive :)

I do? Cuz I thought my life ended when I got my results in 11th. If I score around a 90percent in the first semester of my 12th, will it change? Cuz right now Im averaging around a 93, and i have my first set of exams from the 31st.

93 is a great percentage!!
And having 74 in 11th does not make you a bad student. Show an upward trend and a passion for engineering in ur essays and you will have a good chance.
I am a 17’er too and U still have a chance to make up ur application and present it in the best possible light.

Thanks alot for the encouragement! I’ve been working really hard since 12th started. I think I’ll be able to score really well for my exams. Where are you applying to? Im not sure between Aeronautics or MB/BC

See my list of colleges( rough list )

Can anyone please brief me about how the counseling procedure works for the DASA scheme? Do you apply for a specific NIT or are you allowed to take a shot at any NIT your score merits? Also, do they give you an option to fill in 2nd preferences too in case you weren’t allotted your top choice? Thanks a bunch!
