Alcohol poisoning, impotence, brain damage, heart damage, drunk driving and cancer.

ehh.thats all from drinking excessively. theres nothing wrong with alcohol itself, just excess alcohol. and hey, excess can be bad for a lot of things. our body excretes excess salt and water. is water bad? nope.

Not really from excessive alcohol use, that's actually a misconception. I just read that it's from alcohol in general and drinking it all your life.

And for impotence, drunk driving, loss of memory etc., that happens during the drinking, not after.

I'm not against it.

"Dee dee dee doesnt mean mentally retarded. It means stupid. This song goes out all the stupid people out there. You're gonna find this song hilarious, and you don't even know it's about you."

Maybe Enn and Drew should hear Carlos's new song about stupid people.

carlos mencia sucks

I don't get the whole alcohol thing. Alcohol tastes like crap and drunk people are not fun to be around.

I never really got the whole alcohol thing either...i mean drinking to the point of getting s-faced...Getting tipsy is fine but when you start acting like a jackass? Not ****ing cool.

Finally people that view alcohol the same way as I do!

There's nothing wrong with having a drink or two, but getting drunk is stupid...and makes you fat.

ehh i dont think getting drunk is that bad. it makes for funny moments. getting drunk by yourself or because you're addicted to it, that's bad. and obviously there should always be a designated driver.

it totally depends on the person who's drunk. and whether or not you're drunk also, lol. some peopel are mean drunks and well that's not cool.

^yeah. if you're drunk and your friends are drunk, there's always fun. sometimes it hilarious when you're the only sober one b/c you just tell them to do stupid things and they do. haha. but yeah, getting drunk too often, alone, and for the wrong reasons is not cool.

also, you can just be tipsy and still feel loose enough to have stupid fun.

ALCOHOL = SOCIAL LUBRICANT!!

I love drunk people.

You guys should read this: http://www.freetheplant.com/2006/08/31/top-10-pot-studies-government-wished-it-had-never-funded/

i love drunk guys.

they last longer in bed.

and i smoke an occasional cigarette because it relaxes me. i don't care if i die one, two, three years earlier than i would cigarette-free. i live in the moment...i don't think about death 50 years from now.

seriously, have you guys ever smoke pot? at least try it. you won't die, i promise. and the excuse "i won't do it because it's illegal" is lame. i don't follow laws i think shouldn't exist. MLK jr said, "One who breaks an unjust law that conscience tells him is unjust, and who willingly accepts the penalty of imprisonment in order to arouse the conscience of the community over its injustice, is in reality expressing the highest respect for law."

i drink and smoke copious amounts of marijuana, and i have a 3.5 gpa at wellesley college.

oh, and if u think alcohol tastes bad, you’re drinking the wrong thing. coke + any hard liquor = heaven.

know how much you can drink. that's key. then, have yourself a good time.

relax, everyone. life is short. we must go slowly….stop thinking about graduate school/your career/your retirement/your death.

i know how to have fun without substances, but i do enjoy partying with my friends.

feeling stressed? in the words of bob marley, “don’t worry about a thing cause every little thing is gonna be alright.”

p.s.i have no problem if you choose not to drink/smoke, but know that america prides itself on freedom. as an autonomous individual, I have the right to do anything that does not harm anyone else…(argument you say: second hand smoke kills people…drunk drivers kill people, etc.) YES, true. however, nearly everything can be bad in excess...we must learn how to indulge responsibly. to do this, we must educate people, not punish them and deem them deviant and bad.

peace,

kate

Meh, I am all for legalization of marijuana and stuff. I don't drink/smoke since I have found other ways to alleviate stress and find joy. However, I LOVE the no smoking in restaurants in NY. Smokers have the right to smoke, but their nasty second hand smoke gets into my lungs whether I want it or not when I eat out and I'd much prefer they didn't smoke inside public places instead of me having to avoid them (Not that I would leave just because of that, but it doesn't make for a pleasant environment to be in).

it's people like current_student and camus23 who make me shake my head. Ah well, you're the dee dee dee, not me :D.

^have you even had alcohol or been around people that have, when they're actually drunk? i doubt it. but if you have, then maybe you just need to loosen up more. jesus, all i said was drunk people are funny and alcohol CAN equal a good time when it's done in moderation and not just drinkin til you puke.

people need to find out their limit and go from there. if you really think alcohol has no socially good effects, then you're an idiot. too much is bad, duh. but so is too much mcdonalds. anyway, i hate when naive people say alcohol is evil and treat it as this gift from satan when they haven't really experienced it correctly in the right situations, or at all. not saying you're one of those people, but in general is annoying. same with marijuana.

yes there are many ways to relieve stress or have fun, but don't just knock something b/c you're scared of it or people tell you it's bad. experience it with an open mind and then criticize if you want.

you're exactly right. alcohol can be great. it's all about moderation.

getting completely smashed and passing out =bad
super sizing your McDonalds meal = bad

tipsy= fun
medium order of french fries=yum :]

I think camus went a little overboard but the point of the post made sense. Alcohol and marijuana are all right in moderation, as long as you don't make them the point of your existence. People tend to make too big of a deal out of them (either they live for the substances or they are deluded into thinking that use of the substances ruins lives).
It's debatable whether you can smoke cigarettes in moderation (they're addictive so it may or may not be possible, I've seen both sides of the story)--but I'm not going to criticize someone who does what they want to themselves, especially if they're aware of the consequences and are moderating their behavior with a sort of cost-benefit analysis.
