<p>DeKalb, Ill.--Joseph Hines, from Cedar Point (La Salle Peru High School), has been named a scholarship recipient at Northern Illinois University.</p>

<p>The Biomedical Engineering major has received the prestigious NIU Scholars Award ($7,000 per year for four years) valued at $28,000. Hines will begin classes in August.</p>

<p>That may be nice if you are in-state but only $7k for an out of state student hardly makes a dent.</p>

<p>That’s nice. $7K is about 1/3 of a year’s cost so it’s not insignificant.</p>

<p>Our kid just completed a first semester there and so far we’re satisfied with the quality of the education. They offered a $2K transfer scholarship based on transfer GPA and 30 credit hours minimum.</p>

<p>I’m glad to see an illinois school doing something like this.</p>
