<p>I don’t know Illinois State but both Western Illinois U and Northern Illinois U regularly have alums in Chicago shows, musicals and straight plays alike. A WIU grad was Ophelia in the Hamlet production that my son did this summer, and she knocked it straight out of the park (literally, it was in a park). I think a WIU girl had the lead in a very well-received Carrie this summer as well. So if you’re looking for an inexpensive, Illinois-based alternative, I’d check those two. </p>
