Are there any high school seniors out there considering studying business at Illinois and/or Michigan next year? Any thoughts? I like the fact that Illinois has a four year program, unlike Michigan where I would have to stress about being accepted after my freshman year. Is this a valid reason to choose Illinois over Michigan? Thanks!

It’s the same for engineering at Michigan, Purdue and Wisconsin for that matter. I think it’s great that at Illinois, you can get admitted directly into the program of your choice. Their standards are higher for admittance for the most part (Michigan may be the exception to that statement), but that whole sophomore re-application thing is a risk that I’d rather not have to deal with. At Illinois, when your admitted to your program of choice…you’re in. Now you have to perform, but your place in the class is assured if you don’t totally blow it.

It is certainly a valid consideration, and an important one at that.

ok…i picked michigan over illinois.
first of all…applying to Ross for sophmore year is competitive and requires a avg of 3.6 gpa.
however, a major in economics in LSA is far more superior than college of business at illinois. At the same time, getting a bachelors degree in Ross is prestigious, but LSA at michigan is one of the top 10 universities in the world.

I would not pass up that opportunity.

Just my 2 cents.

Both schools are very good. I guess it mainly depends on your residence. If I am an Illinois residence, I would choose UIUC, or vice verse. Both schools are expensive for OOS. You can always go there for graduate school in four years.
