U of Illinois vs. U of Michigan business

Hi, I'm currently debating the issue of U of I's business program vs. U of Mich. I got direct admittenceto the U of I program a month after I applied. Also I live in IL so the tuition would be cheaper than my current high school. The money really isn't an issue because my sister goes to Vanderbuilt which cost about 40K (even more than Mich). However, I feel that saving 100K and going to U of I already in the business program might be better for me than going to the Mich business program. First off I need to get into Mich. I think I have a good shot, but I just want to make a decesion now and weigh the pros and the cons. Also even if I get into Mich getting into the business program will be tough. If I don't get into that I think I'll be screwed where at U of I I will already be on the track from day 1. Finally, about 40 kids from my high school including some of my closest friends are going to U of I. I don't know if I'll have a better time with the overall atmosphere of Mich or my friends at U of I. Also I hate the cold at Mich. Burrrr

I read in the Princeton Review's best business schools that U of I was ranked a 94 and Mich a 97 with the avg salary from U of I at about 81K and Mich at 84K. So a 3K difference assuming they both increase at a similar rate. It would take many years to make up the difference of their prices. If I go to U of I I'll have more pull to get a new RSX Type S too.

You should visit both schools to see which one fits you better. It's true that competition for the business school at Michigan is really tough, but you always have the option of majoring in economics at Michigan, which is still good preparation for a job in business. This is assuming that you don't want to do something really specialized like accounting or management information systems. I would have to say that Michigan's business school is a few notches above the college of business at U of I.

I think I should point out that the stats you got from princeton review are referring to avg. salaries of MBA graduates from the U of I and Michigan business schools. The links below tell you the average salaries for undergraduates coming out of U of I and Michigan:

<a href="http://www.business.uiuc.edu/bcs/employers/placement_statistics/undergraduate/full_time.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.business.uiuc.edu/bcs/employers/placement_statistics/undergraduate/full_time.html</a></p>

<a href="http://www.bus.umich.edu/EmploymentProfile/EmploymentOverview.htm?StudentType=BBAGrads%5B/url%5D">http://www.bus.umich.edu/EmploymentProfile/EmploymentOverview.htm?StudentType=BBAGrads</a></p>

Sounds to me as if u would rather go to U of I. But at any rate, if u haven't applied already, ur chance will be hurt severly. What r your stats????

Best football program in big ten vs. best basketball program in big ten (and nation)

UIUC has a good bb program? I didn't know that. I always thought Wisconsin was the best in that division.

UI is really good this year. Last year they basically tied. I'd give UI the nod this year--they are deep with talent.

There's no question about basketball. U of I has absolutely destroyed everyone they've played, including top schools like Wake Forest. And as far as which school you should go to, it depends on what type of business you're talking about. UIUC has the better accounting program, but UMich is better in many other areas, so it really depends on what you want to specialize in.

i was debating the same thing, but since the marketing program is better at michigan (ranked like #2 or something in the nation) i let go of uiuc.

honestly.. for business UofI is probably going to be great at that price. I'm from Illinois.. and if I don't get into ND UIUC and Mich will be 2 of my top choices.
