Illustration in School of Visual Arts. BFA

I’m a international transfer student. I got accpeted to illustration for 2015 fall.
The thing is that I know that SVA is famous for illustration program but other than that
I don’t have any information about the school.
Also my parents don’t know anything about the school so I need prove to them that expensive tutition is worth it.
If you have any information about the school please tell me. Thanks!

Hi lovescream6, Congratulations on getting accepted at SVA. Where are you transferring from (if you don’t mind saying). I ‘m not a student of SVA, but I am a Visual Arts professional. I know that SVA is super expensive, but I think its’ worth it because it is really practical as a program. You should check out the list of alumni, the visiting faculty and the other departments of the school. They invite the best in the business to teach, the exposure will be great, and it’s in New York-- That’s the best place to be if you’re looking at a career in Illustration Freelance. At the end of the day you have to make it as an artist on your own so figure out if the transfer is giving you a whole lot more. Good Luck!

I’m not in the biz but did a lot of research before sending my S off to school for illustration. The school is great. The one thing that led us to decide to send our S to another school in Philly vs SVA even though he got accepted was the city.

Our S felt intimidated by such a large city and so many people - it had nothing to do with the school itself. Met is very integrated into the city and NYC is your campus. It can fun, distracting, scary and you can make almost anything of it you desire. If living in a huge city doesn’t bother you, the school is great. Go there.
