I'm a 100% african american legacy to princeton chances of getting in

Well lets start off by saying this is my very first post so sorry if its in the wrong place or anything. Also say whatever you feel and also what i could do to increase my chances would be nice too. My feelings don't get hurt so be blunt.

my G.P.A. is somewhere around like 3.6 (no special weighting i think)
A.C.T.-28 (only my first time)
Ec's:student council freshman year, fbla, fca, math honor society, tennis, i'm a leader of my youth group, and i have had part time jobs

i figure i might have a chance because i'm a legacy my dad attended princeton (class of 72') and i'm an african american student. just give me your honest to goodness input it would be helpful my dad is also a legacy at stanford so if you think i might have a chance there too your insight would be greatly appreciated. and if not some other colleges i might look into.

im a junior taking a decently hard courseload im in precal, ap us history, honors chemistry, ap english 3, trigonometry, and spanish 2. do you think me only taking 2 years of a foreign language will turn into a big deal or do you think i should take a 3rd year of spanish next year

next year i plan on taking ap english 4 ap calculus ap psychology ap european history mcp(microsoft certification) and sports and entertainment marketing class. i plan on majoring in something to do with business so what would you suggest me changing if anything.

I'll say this much. Your quantitative stats are in the lower 25th percentile so that hurts you quite a bit. Being african american and a legacy is a large boost, but I would rate your chance of admittance at around 20%. I would rate you higher, but your EC's don't seem to show much passion for any one area, your courseload is about average to a little under that when compared to other applicants.

There is always a chance. I'm just gonna say that yours isn't great. Do well on the essays because that will make/break you.

you're courseload isn't too great.

why didn't you double up in your science classes?

and yes, take 3 years of spanish.

If you can raise your ACT score, you have a pretty good chance, since your course schedule does look relatively demanding and the 3.6 is unweighted. Any idea what your rank is like? And how hard is your school?

And do well on SAT IIs

From the Princeton website:

"The following is recommended as basic preparation for study at Princeton:
four years of English (including continued practice in writing)
four years of mathematics
four years of one foreign language
at least two years of laboratory science
at least two years of history (including that of a country or an area outside the United States)
some study of the visual arts, music, or theater. "

While 4 years of a foreign language is not required, having only 2 or 3 years will set you back from even the basic preparation that Princeton is looking for.

thanks guys that helps a lot what schools would you say i would have a good chance at that are still pretty prestigious thanks for all your input

I'm just wondering, does Affirmative Action apply in your case? You are African-American, but I thought that the whole point of Affirmative Action is to help the underpriveleged minorities(is this correct?)...but you're a legacy at Princeton so... does it still count for you?

Sorry if any of this sounds offensive or blunt...I'm just wondering.

yes it does apply, and the fact that he has legacy only helps and not hurt his chances

Honestly, I think you have a 50% chance of getting in

thats good yea i'm more interested in like ucla though and stanford do you guys have like oppinions about htat would they be harder or easier also consider duke, north carolina, south carolina, california berkeley

How can your dad be considered a legacy at both Princeton and Stanford? I thought they only counted undergraduate parents as legacies, and surely he couldn't have graduated from both schools. If you're talking about him being a legacy at a Stanford grad school, I don't think that that counts (I think it only works at Yale law, but im not 100% sure). Anyway, I think being a legacy would help more at Princeton, as it has the reputation as being more legacy-focused.

If you work on your essays to make yourself even more unique, I think you have a pretty good chance at both schools. Be sure you apply to the school you are more interested in early decision / action, as that works well with your legacy card.

Stanford considers grad student too

hey thanks a lot for all the responses yea like i actually did get my first C this year but it was in AP US which at my school is the hardest class in the school but my end average will be about a ninety will you guys fill me in about the UC grading thing cause at my school a 90 is like a 3.1 the grading scale is so gay

I got my first F last year on my English final, but that is because that wench despised me for no reason and graded my fairly good essay with spite.

I got my first C in Sophmore Comp Sci, but my teacher didn't even know Java so when she said we were wrong it was often the opposite.

I somehow got into Rice though and hopefully MIT and Princeton(legacy + URM as well).
