Our senior is an admitted FSU Fall 2016 freshman. She applied to Honors and today, received an email indicating she is on a wait-list for the program. Any idea what percentage of wait-list applicants are admitted to FSU Honors? We weren’t aware that a wait-list existed for the program. Thanks, in advance, for your insight.
I hadn’t heard of that but I just texted my daughter to see if she has heard anything. Will report back if I can find out
my daughter says the waiting list is new this year so no one seems to know how it will work out
Hello, my name is Nina Sotolongo and I will be attending FSU as a first year student this fall as a chemistry major. I have applied to the Honors program and am awaiting a decision, and before even applying to honors I had learned about and taken great interest in the UROP. I’ve understood there’s some type of correlation between being an honors student and a UROP participant; if I get into the honors program, will I be automatically admitted into UROP?
NeurOn3rd - question about the dorms… my son will be honors but will also be re-applying to film school this fall - is alternate currently… my older son graduated from the film school this past december and while he could have been in honors chose not to since he would be so busy with film. Since it is uncertain with my younger son, he went ahead and accepted the honors position. I realize you don’t have to live in Landis and we are torn between Landis and the brand new dorms, Diviney and Dorman which also don’t require a meal plan. Other than being with the other honors kids, what other advantages are there to being in Landis? He would most likelly move off campus sophmore year anyway, so just trying to determine if its really that important. Also - his backup plan is advertising/writing… in looking at advertising at UF - he was also accepted there but really wants to try for film again in the fall - UF’s program seems much better on paper… do you know anyone in honors that is studying advertising? too bad journalism is not an option because of FAMU… thanks for any insight…
@NeurOn3rd see above
The biggest difference I see between UF and FSU is that Florida spends quite a bit of time telling you how wonderful they are and how lucky you are to be there, while FSU shows you how wonderful they are and tells you how much they’d like to have you there.
Petrichor, that is a perfect expression of how we felt when we visited both schools. we had no preconceived notions about either school prior to our first visit, but that was exactly our experience. FSU has turned out to be wonderful. My daughter feels super lucky to be there.
I would love to speak to someone more about NMF and the Incentive Scholarship as my daughter is a senior this year and looking at FSU Honors or UF but we don’t really understand how all of this works. Any help is appreciated!! Also would like to know more about FSU Honors program and if you have to take any classes still that have hundreds of students in them.
@afitzsi Here’s a great comprehensive thread on the FIS/NMF scholarships.
If after reading through that thread, you still have questions, go ahead and post your question in that thread. Several of the parents have been great about responding and answering questions.
If you’re in the (FSU) University Honors Program, you do get the option of attending Honors sections of regular courses that are generally limited to 25 students. So, in some cases you can avoid the 100+ Calculus 1 class and attending the “honor” version of Calc 1. However, in some cases an honor version of that class may not be offered that semester, or it may not fit your schedule, causing you to attend a “regular” class.
What would you like to know about the FSU honors program? My daughter is a sophomore in it. Whatever i dont know, i can ask her. Also i can answer questions about Presidential Scholars. Dont know anything about NMF, though.
If she is planning a visit, let me know, i think my daughter would meet with her or find someone in her major to speak with her. There is lots of interest in attracting academically talented students to the school. My daughter loves FSU and is always happy to share her great experience with others.

I’m aware my gpa is quite low but will there be a high chance for me to get in if I applied to the summer 2017 term? I would prefer applying for the fall term but I heard you have a higher chance on getting in through the summer term and if me applying to the summer term to get into FSU is what it takes I’m willing to do that! What do you suggest?
Again thank you so much!! Hope to hear from you soon!
^^there will be more knowledgeable people who chime in on FSU admissions, but one thing I would highly suggest to you @malinasav is to do every single step of the FSU application, including the resume, even if it says “optional”. I seem to remember that being an issue last admissions cycle when I was reading the acceptance thread. My son was accepted for Fall of 2016 but ended up going elsewhere. He had good stats but did all the steps on the app. Also, I do think your chances are better in Summer B (or whatever they call the summer session at FSU). But hoping someone will clarify that. Wishing you lots of luck!!!
Apply for Fall. ALWAYS. If you don’t get in for Fall they automatically consider you for summer.
@malinasav For the 2016 summer term, the middle 50% of enrolled students GPA range 3.5 to 4.1, the new SAT was 1190 to 1320 and the ACT was 24 to 28.
Your GPA is a tad low, so you really want to improve your test score. Otherwise FSU is a high match/low reach (based on how much you improve your SAT or ACT score).
Good Luck!.
Hi everyone, I’m wondering if anyone has started a thread for the 2017 presidential scholars program? My S just got a notification that he made the interview weekend and I’m looking for any info I can find! Thank you
I just now too was notified I’m a finalist! I’m wondering the same, and how many people are selected as finalists??
that’s one of my questions as well. We are interested but it’s an expensive weekend for us to fly to Florida during spring break. I’d love to get anyone’s opinion’s on the interview weekend.
About 75 students get asked to interview; 25 get it. 100% worth it to fly in. This scholarship cements many students’ decision to attend FSU
Thanks @pg96fsu - those are definitely worthwhile numbers. Did you go through the interview process?
