I'm a Drop Out who needs help choosing a major.

Okay - I’m from Ireland not the US, our system is different we have to go to college for a specific degree - so specific subjects, little to no choice etc.
But I just need help on the deciding side before looking at requirements etc…

I’ve studied business for 2 years - hated every minute of it, would not go back.

I don’t enjoy maths, I passed in college and did okay in school but I wouldn’t chose a degree with maths in it again, it made me miserable.

My best subjects were English, Biology, Geography…
I really enjoyed each of these subjects in school.
I have a good memory, but importantly I’m good at articulating in exams, I never struggle in ‘non-maths’ subjects.

I want something that’s employable… maybe I’d be great at Philosophy but that’s not employable… I went into business because it’s employable but I really did not enjoy that.

So…
I want something thats not foreign language(s), and not Maths.
I am good at subjects where I can get my point of cross, writing essays, debates (especially)…

Any advice? What should I look into? What about career prospects?

You’re from Ireland, but are you living here? Are you a citizen or permanent resident? How old are you? Frankly, your best bet at this point is to go into the academic advising center at your local community college and ask for some help. You can start general ed classes and work your way to transferring inot a four year uni. You can also see if any credits you already earned are transferable. There are also career advising centers on campus. Go in and ask if you can take an aptitude test, or find one online.

If you are not a permanent resident, your tuition fess are going to be very expensive. I strongly encourage you to at least meet with an academic adviser to help you get things in order.

There’s also a forum here on CC for non-traditional students. Consider posting there.

Political science?

Are you looking to apply to US colleges or stay in Ireland and pick a new course?

For the US, you will have a minimum of 2 more years to go (at pretty much every university), more likely 3 and quite possibly 31/2- only some of your current credits.

For Irl, how many LC points did you have & what university are you in now?

If you liked philosophy, you might like studying law. But find out how the field was impacted by the recession there - are there jobs? Only for those out of specific universities? Do your research. But if you find that the field is doing well, it may be a fit for you.

Do you think you would enjoy teaching? One of my son’s best high school teachers was a man with a passion for biology. I attended open house and was very impressed with him. Unfortunately, he retired before my other children could take his class. There is deep need for teachers who can help others feel the subject matter.
