I'm a Sociology Major and I hate it

I recently realized that I identify more with the Republican party, and I seriously CANNOT stand my major. I'm just taking one Sociology class that keeps bashing on capitalism and I can't stand it. Does anyone have ANY ideas on how to cope with the fact that I can't swallow the BS I'm learning in class. I just need to take 5 more classes, and it doesn't seem like a lot but seriously just this one class is excruciatingly painful I just don't know what I'm going to do to cope. I need help.

If it’s too late to change your major or you are unable to choose classes on topics that you would enjoy or are interested in, I would recommend that you would just recognize that because your professor or the class believes one thing that doesn’t mean you have to as well. It’s okay to disagree with people and viewpoints, as long as you can do so thoughtfully and have solid evidence to back your decision. It’s often a good idea to experience viewpoints and opinions that are different than yours, and while it might be difficult to do it all the time, it’s still a good experience that may make you a more thoughtful and knowledgeable person.

Perhaps, taking other classes that you are more interested in (if you can fit them in) would help to even out the blow of not enjoying your major. Ideally, you’d like to switch majors or choose classes on topics that are of more interest to you, but if that’s most possible, then all you can do is keep an open mind and make the best of it. If nothing else, it’s always a good experience to learn about and be exposed to viewpoints that are different than your own. You don’t have to agree with it, but it is a good experience to have.

@baktrax thanks. Yeah, I was considering auditing 1 psych class per quarter. My school has one of the best Psychology programs in the state. I don’t really see the benefits of spending hours looking at viewpoints that I don’t agree with. To be honest, I’d rather be learning at stuff I love but I guess I’ll find out what happens to me at the end of this journey.

Think of it as intellectual broadening. If u are already a believer and want only more of the same, then go to church instead of college.

You’ve already gone this far down the road. Is it do-able at this point to switch your major to Psych, w a minor in Soc? There must be a lot of overlap in the course requirements.
