A big part of transferring (if that’s what you do) is explaining why you want to come to that school in particular - what it has that your current school does not. From what you have posted so far, my guess is that you want famous and cheap, neither of which is a good reason from the pov of the university. Do some research about the individual schools and the things that you would study there. The ‘why us’ question is huge.
Btw, citing that you have published a paper in the Delhi University journal (which will certainly name you as a student) will make it harder to argue that you have not been to college yet. And the speed with which you go to ‘what if I just lie?’ is not terribly admirable.
And, jettisoning the university you are in before you get your ‘first year certificate’ (hard to tell if you have finished your first year studies or just your first term) for the possibility of getting into a top tier US uni is an extremely high risk strategy.
@Jr12317 , thats right. i checked and its possible.
But is it worth the risk of leaving my university?
does my application got a chance in Ivys as freshman?
( considering i will take subject test and will score perfect)
@collegemom3717 , i didnt knew that not telling your previous college is a bad thing.
and i am about to get my first year certificate in a week, if i have i real shot to ivys, then i am okey to leave my university in a week.
Leaving Delhi University for IVY’s, let me think some factors. If you don’t get in on those schools or you can’t pay them, You will lose another year. Your chances are minimal on those schools because you are international and you will need aid. Not impossible, but it will be hard. I will give a chance as a transfer not worth it to leave if you are almost done with your first year.
No one can’t guarantee you that. IVY’s are never safety.
You are nuts. This is like divorcing your husband on the wee chance Brad Pitt might marry u.
@Jr12317 can i get in any university that is not an Ivy but that provides financial aid or scholarships for international. like Duke university.
And also if i leave Delhi university, can i list the ECs performed during my studies in that university ?
Duke is more competitive than some ivies. Your chance for any uni as an international transfer is less than 1%. As a freshman it will increase but not so much as to call any of them safeties.
Lol, @GMTplus7.
Not sure you can look for transfer and see if they offer need based aid. I think Duke doesn’t offer need based aid for transfers.
Leaving the first year, yeah. Leaving without doing the first not sure. Schools will look like you drop Delhi University.
@GMTplus7 , is vanderbilt , duke , amherst also “Brad pitt” for my application?
Maybe not Vanderbilt but duke and amhrest are full Bradd Pitts
thanks, @Jr12317, @Bored1997 @GMTplus7 . looks like i got only a week to think about it.
but maybe university consider it positive risk taking ability that i left Delhi University. haha
I don’t think you should leave there is always grad school to go to the US. You can still apply as transfer and test your luck.
Good luck( Indian here too where in DU are you?)
Hindu College, north campus . @Bored1997
Agree with post #31. Good luck!
@Jr12317 , @Bored1997 , i am on a phone call with my professor, he said if you leave Delhi university , and wont get in US with scholarship. he will be able to talk to university and get me back in DU…
what do you think now? should i leave ??
Ankind, why are you not looking at the acceptance rates for all of these schools and recognizing that they are extremely low? LIKE EVERYONE ELSE, your chances are exceedingly low, which is why no one with any brain cells “counts” on any schools of these caliber until they are holding the acceptance letter in their hands.
She answer it @Pizzagirl. Will you lose a year?
@Jr12317 I will lose 6 months, if I leave now… Usually they don’t take students back but my professor will manage to get me in… Even if I get in vanderbilt with scholarship, I will take it…
Mighty big of you to settle for vandy…
Does your professor have connections or something alike?
What happen if he can’t, it looks like he won’t on 100%.
Why you want to study on the U.S.?
Jobs for internationals are so hard to get. Even Vandy is so difficult to get in.
